Which do you prefer? I'm looking at getting a HG Spectra but I wanted to hear arguments for and against the Next Gen Model

If you aren't into slings and lunars then go the OG, other than that go for Next Gen.

I'm into Lunars but haven't gotten too into the sling game. What is the best ken in your opinion @Bryson L for slingers?

@Bryson L right on! Next gen is on the left I'm guessing?

Looks like larger cups, and slimmed down above the slip. Slip is more elegant too, I'd have to see it in person but it's looking like it's gone in the same direction as the craft slim.

Stoked to get to see one for myself in a couple weeks at toy fair!

Yeah pictures don't do justice but it's a totally different feel in the hands than visually!

They are very different. Didn't really expect such a drastic change but I suppose that is why they are keeping both models in circulation

The next gens are fully improved for many tricks - larger and deeper cups for cup play, lunars, and lighthouses, stretched out sarado and slim neck for amazing sling capabilities, and more defined and crispy stall points. The cups are massive on the next gens, it's kind of crazy, lol. They play incredible. I've always been a fan of the HG shape, but I highly suggest to anyone who doesn't have one yet to go ahead and upgrade to the new shape. The old shape will always have a special place in my heart, but the new ones are a true innovation to kendama IMO, and one of my personal favorite damas I've ever played.

I've gotten to play both. Both are amazing in their own way. The OG feels more like an RWB classic in the fact that there's not much crazy stuff going on, but it is still an amazing playing Kendama. The Next Gen is a whole new HG experience. As @Jenny Cho said the Next Gen has massive cups that really lock in all tricks. I can see how some players may not like it. I like the Next Gen more, but a lot of people may say otherwise if they like a less "chunky" kendama

I definitely agree with JCho! IMO New gen just takes the cake for being a great overall dama. I love slingers and my older HG is so near and dear to my heart as being the first dama i learned how to sling on. but on the flip side, it wasn't the best ken i had for lunes. but with the new gen i could sling while still having great lunar capabilities. I got the fuchsia flash spec and i loveeeee it

Sidenote: it looks like the new Sweets Prime are the same/similar shape as the New Gen HGs. Can anyone verify?

They are definitely similar in that the cups are enlarged, widened, a widened sarado as a whole, etc. However, they differ slightly in shape - to the best of my knowledge, the Next Gens have deeper cups and crispier stall points than the Primes.

I can definitely say though, that the Primes are a REALLY good deal imo. All new sticky, but clear/gloss coat paint, and a super PRIME shape, lol. All for the 20 dollar price range, some which are even cheaper than 20 bucks. #deals

it is pretty much the same changes between the f3 and og homegrown. the nextgen shape is based off of the prime shape, just higher quality.

Also, slingers are amazing on nextgens, but my current favorite slinger dama is an og homegrown and i learned late slingers on it, so it is really down to the specific dama you get. my nextgen is AMAZING for stalls however. i got my first stilt flip on it and can get bird over valleys pretty consistently.

I learned both slings and lunars on the OG. They are quite playable for those tricks.
