I was looking around on kendamalife.com (which from what I can tell is an English version of Yumu Kendama's site), and the type of wood that their Yumu Pro Racing kendamas are made of isn't listed in the details. The extra engraving option is super dope, but I wanted to know a little more about the model before ordering it.

So, people that have purchased one: Is the weight between the tama and ken even? How is the paint; what does it compare to? What wood is it made of? Is it worth?

Can you link to the ken you're asking about?

    Looks like beech to me.
But don't trust my words, unless i'm a wood turner.

I like Yumu kendamas, they're generally nice to play with.
Won a Saturn from an Ontrack giveaway, and it's pretty well balanced.
My only gripe about Yumus are the same as KenCo - the string is too stiff, almost no bounce in it.

I love my yumu. The ken is beech and the paint is nice, just the right amount of tack, slip, and clack. I recommend yumu to anyone.

Right on! I mean, try it with their string though, maybe you'll like it.

Basically, the string has ZERO stretch, so when you miss a trick and the tama falls, it hits the end of the string with a more jarring 'thud' than normal (a normal string would stretch a tiny bit, absorbing some of the impact). Not a huge difference, but enough to turn me off of them.
Also, it makes it a little tougher to wrap the string up around the ken when you put a ken away. Normally you can sort of 'force' a tightly wrapped tama onto the spike, and the string will stretch a bit to allow it to fit on. No dice with these.

the pro racing paint is really nice. I bought a pro racing for my gf and a rubber for myself, and always end up borrowing hers bc it's really fun to play. I hit my first light-tap-light on it too. The kens feel pretty sturdy aswell, and are great for slings.

Does the paint on the Saturn get sticky after a while? Just looking at it, it seems like the paint is a standard tribute-gloss paint.

The stickiness remains. Hardly any change from when i unboxed it, to when i last played it.
