I've been into so many different things... cycling, yoyoing, nearly every sport there is, comic books, skating and the like. Kendama has definitely stayed with me longer than most of my other hobbies/sports.
I've been into aggressive inline skating for about six years and thanks to it I found out what kendama is.
Skateboarding since I was twelve. Even though I go riding rarely nowadays, it is still fun just to cruise around and do some tricks I've already known for a while.
Golf has been a passion of mine for several years and I've been playing since i was about 5. unfortunately, i dont play as much now, but i get out there every once in a while to the driving range
music will always be a passion of mine. i mostly play guitar but if you know enough music theory you can play any instrument so i also can half ass play anything with strings. i messed around with drums for a bit and was getting good but fell off.
Some of the pre-kendama passions that I still continue to pursue are photography, painting, drawing, skating (skateboarding), playing ukulele and golf.
I have had a similar experience. The passions that I mentioned earlier were just the ones that I pursued right before kendama. I have had SO MANY. Another one that I can think of right off the bat is running. Running used to be my life. In 9th grade I was running "the mile" in 4 minutes and 45 seconds. The problem was that I didn't know how to stop. So I started accumulating injuries from training too hard. That is when I started transitioning into soccer and weightlifting. Then... I found KENDAMA. It was LOVE at first site. A year and a half later I am still in love, and I know that kendama will be a big part of my life forever.
I played baseball in college and then for a little while in the minor leagues. After that I got really into kendama, surfing, and skating again. I won't ever become pro at any of those things, but it's cool that I achieved that status in baseball at one point. Getting paid to do something you truly love is a very surreal feeling.
I got scouted to play soccer at a 4 year college in Oregon... Didn't accept it though. I was really big into freestyle skiing as well. I dropped a video below. Peep it.
HAHA! Dude @htimSxelA, when I was in PA, @Bryan Scagline and @Yourdy showed me those vids. He still stars in them I hear...
That does sound really awesome!!! I would really love to get paid enough to live off of my art/design someday.
Your freestyle skiing skills are awesome man!!! I have never tried skiing... but it looks super fun! In my head I naturally start relating the tricks to kendama haha. Its really cool to keep finding out things that we have in common as well. Now I know that we both played soccer, and we are both graphic design students.
Rubik's Cubes and playing guitar. Wrote a couple cheesy, indie-acoustic songs as well. I used to play a crap ton of Call of Duty too. 4.6:1 kill-death-ratio, yo.
That KD ratio is insane!!! I played video games once haha. Have tried to play guitar a couple times but I dont think my fingers work that way LOL. Thats awesome that you wrote songs too!
I was super into CoD before kendama. Me and the homies were all into the whole trickshotting, quickscoping, and 1v1 thing. I used to spend my time recording hours of gameplay and making videos (guess its not so different from kendama haha). To this day though, this clip is by far the sickest thing I have ever done on CoD, and I'm still stoked on it even though it was almost 5 years ago. Check it out if you ever used the ballistic knife/tomahawk on Black Ops. I played from like 7th grade to the beginning of sophomore year before I started losing interest. I found kendama the summer before my senior year of high school, so there was a gap of time where I didn't really have a hobby/passion other than just trying to do well in school and extracurricular activities. Super glad I got into kendama though
Snowboarding, Golf (I haven't played AT ALL in a couple years, used to play every day in the summer for years and years as a kid), gaming, board games, some skateboards. Aw man I need to go golfing!
