Just wanted to make a thread to clarify any tricks that go by different names, maybe find out it's not the same trick. First one i thought of; Is ghost the same thing as dry toss?
It's kind of a regional thing like soda and pop. Different groups call some of those transitional tricks or even more tech tricks different names. Like when I first started whirlwinds weren't called whirlwinds, it was called kenflip with a earth turn. Someone must have gotten tired of saying all that and simplified the name. And when I was first playing my friends and I would call turntables yourd spins (bc we only saw Yourd do em) and I often still call em yourd spins.
I'm confused with some of the "around" tricks like around the galaxy/universe/village etc. Assuming they correspond to other names but I don't know.
Little bird, or nightingale if you're a grom The BKA uses some weirdo trick names. 'Bamboo Horse' instead of Stilt (I think maybe its a more literal translation from Japanese? Still weird) My brother's friends used to call bottom cup 'back door'. Lol
There is a thumb wip trick that I do that is called "plastic wip" in yo-yo but not sure exactly what it is called in kendama. I know that I have heard the names J wip and C wip before. Anyone know what the "plastic whip" equivalent in kendama is called?
Yeah i remember the days of earth turn kenflip hahaha. definitely regional and definitely changed over time. i get confused with some things so maybe this will be helpful for others too. Wait underbird and batt arent the same?! lol what is the difference. also i used to think handlestall was cliffhanger hahahaha makes sense tho. Lmfao back door. Cant imagine what they would come up with for penguin basecup idk what any of the whip tricks are hahaha curious tho
Plastic whip is similar to J-whip since you use your thumb and flick it forward. (Start with holding the tama and hanging the ken with the string draped over your thumb) C-Whip is opposite where you're using your pointer finger and flicking that finger into your body. (Starting with holding the tama and having the ken hanging with the string draped over your pointer finger)
Those are just two different tricks. Fasthand means you would sort of place the ken on the tama, then switch to tama grip. Ghost you just toss the ken, no flip to lighthouse
just like cliffhanger and axe there the same trick, thats what I thought with ghost and fast hands lighty. huh
Here's one that I've seen on some old battle ladder videos. What is Around the Universe? It looks the same as Around Europe to me.
Umm around the cosmos is like around Europe, but with a slip-on-stick sorta thing to start it off. My guess is if it looks the same as around europe, it is around europe. If you go back a few years, the names in ladder videos are probably all over the place. The same could prob be said for Jake's more current videos too... he loves to just invent his own names
