How much string stretch? Flat or round string? Stiff or Flexible?

  1. Very stretchy

  2. Medium Stretch

  3. Zero or very little stretch

  4. Any amount of stretch is fine. Doesn't matter/Don't notice.

  5. Stretchiness, depends on the tricks I'm trying to hit.

  6. Flat String

  7. Round String

  8. Stiff

  9. Soft/Flexible

  10. Medium flexibility

I've found that some of the vendor's measurements are suspect. ;)

@Nitram707 Just make sure it's braided not twisted cord/string. Also test the strength before play. I had some perfect looking string that broke really quickly.

I tried a few of the ones listed that I don't see now so I can't help much on that. They were spools of Chinese beading cord or something like that. Those weren't terrible but kinked and weren't as strong as the original strings. I think the braided light blue at the bottom of that search list looked interesting but I think it said it was only 0.75mm. I actually tried some 1.18mm that was rated at 100# and one color was flexible and worked well the other was stiff and abrasive and they were both the same products from the same maker just different color. Basically you're going to have to look around especially if you want something other than basic black or white. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I never did ask, how long are you trying to go? I think most of the kendama strings I see are about 40-50cm. You need more than that?

Yikes, OK. If stiff string is a benefit check Atwood Rope for the 1.18 stuff I used for a while (now use it on jumbos or other heavies). The benefit for me is that I use it for all sorts of non-kendama stuff like zipper pulls and knotting so I really wasn't out anything if it didn't work for my kendama setups. The last time I got some the black was super stiff but broke in to tolerable. The neon green was better from the start but still took a long while to break in. It's not really meant to be supple just tough. I don't juggle so I really don't know what you need for that action.

I can't get the shot that I'd like but the stuff I've been using is the top and Ozora is the bottom. The Ozora is more oval or "fat" flat than the string I've been using which is really flat flat and non-stretch.

    Real silk or satin string?

I'm not aware of too many real silk string makers but I really would like to try these silk strings.

Does anyone have any recommendations on rainbow nylon string? Looking to buy bulk but a lot of the stuff I see on Amazon looks a little iffy to me...

No lead for you on rainbow Nylon but also look under "Dacron" too since that type of string works as well.

Wow, i haven’t heard of Dacron in a very long time..
We used to use it to make strings for our bows in archery.

Good Dacron is relatively low stretch and is pretty easy to find as braided string.

Any string will do, honestly, but I can't stand rectangular-wound string. It doesn't react well with any bead, leading to a lot of tangling during play. Messes up my flow a lot, so I end up switching to round string (which is a total waste of a good string since I like keeping my setups as they came in the box).
