Any DS members ever try KENditioner? Really curious if it's worth the $20 and month wait or if it's just a hype product
If you do your own "ken"-ditioning, you are looking at the plus of it being put together for you (plus it comes with a rag). I have been doing my own coconut oil, dry/absorb, reapply, dry/absorb, beeswax finish (including blow dry heat treatment) for a few months now. I must say a fully loaded product that cuts time and adds to the ease of keeping your kens looking clean and nice is awesome. **I have not seen close up of the rag to know if they have any sort of logo or design** If you like to DIY, then keep at it.
I dont think so because it sinks into the wood, and also dries as a hard outer coat. If it stayed greasy it wouldn't protect the Ken from chips and it is supposed too. Also, its a wax, not a grease, but there might not bee too big of a difference between the two.
I have bought and applied the Kenditioner on a slaydawg I use. Like Kristian has said it DOES NOT effect play, if anything it may make it a little grippier for stalls once dried for the night it was applied. Although that seemed to have faded the next day. The grain definitely does pop after initial use but again that slightly fades away by the next day as well (still looks slightly better then w/o kenditioner). So basically all I can say is that it took me a while to chip this Dama in which I was doing several new school tricks on due to its slaydawg size (instas, jugs, taps, etc.). So I can't confirm that it works 100% as I am only one person in what should be a much larger sample size, but chips and dulled spike did come after application, although they seemed to be (possibly) delayed by a little at least? Either way it's always good to support your homies and try something new that can potentially help step up your game! (Disclaimer: I am no Kenditioner veteran, so I may not have used enough on the Kendama, or let it dry enough before applying second/third coats, yadda yadda. There are several variables that will change the outcome of the Kenditioner's abilities and like I said, I am only one attempt out of what should be a large sample size to give a definitive answer.)
I love that Kristian is making this a thing! I personally don't like putting a finish on kendamas, but I must admit it makes them look nice! So I imagine some people will love it. Cool to see a kendama-specific product for this. Still waiting on some proof that it protects against chips though @Kristian Aynedter
I'm stoked on it! This is just a real light coat. Might do another coat as it seemed to soak up the first coat pretty well. Birch GT Tama Ozora Ken
Wouldn't this product help in adding a bit of moisture to the wood? Dry wood chips easier but wood that was a bit of moisture in it will sooner dint than chip, is this a correct assumption or no?
