If I'm out of green coffee, I occasionally order from counter culture. Another relatively local roaster I love is Jones coffee from Pasadena, ca https://www.jonescoffeeroasters.com/
So I exploded coffee everywhere twice with my aeropress.. lmao. Sooo, I ordered a Chemex. I'm still determined to get a good cup out of that aeropress, but I want to do pour-over coffee too. The moment when you're standing in your kitchen going "...fuck there is coffee EVERYWHERE." It's that moment where you're just standing still thinking "fuck.. did this really happen?"
Great choice, can't go wrong with a chemex, very forgiving brewer with great results. You'll find the best tasting cups of coffee come out of pourovers So the explosion, didn't lock the plastic lid?
It just... Wouldn't lock. I tried anyway because what was the worst that could happen! The second time, well I bumped the plunger out while using the inverted method. Does the chemex come with filters? Because I don't want to wait until Tuesday haha. Or can I just go buy regular pour over squares from Walmart?(Walmart actually sells pour-overs and has filters for them!)
interesting, it does come locked out of the box, maybe one of the tabs are bent or something? aeropress are very simple in design. It does take a few tries to get it to work, you'll need to hone in on your grind setting and amount of coffee. Once you've nailed it, your in the clear. I personally don't have a chemex, I opted for a hario v60 then moved over to Kalita Wave. I do know that the filters from chemex are slightly thicker in comparison to your run of the mill filters, they provide much better filtration, I would stick with chemex filters for the specific design purpose but do some research on what type of filters are compatible.
oh and go with bleached filters, make sure you do a prerinse of your filters to remove/minimize any paper taste.
I have no idea, it worked fine up until i did my first brew, which i botched because the cap wouldn't lock haha. the second batch went fine up until i pulled the plunger out on accident :< I'll wait for the chemex filters I guess!
My neighbor does some woodwork on the side, he crafted me a double drip coffee station... Going to make my mornings so much easier as I always brew 2x coffee.
Received my Chemex filters today. Stole a recipe off reddit. This is the best cup I've ever had in my life. Like it's unbelievable. I never thought coffee could taste anything but bitter. Man, I was stoked for the Aeropress because it makes a damn good cup. The Chemex though, damn. I can't go back to my auto-drip. I love coffee. Look what you have done, not only am I buying high quality coffee now, but I also buy high-end loose leaf tea. ...I might have a problem. EDIT#2: Kendama lead me to drinking great coffee.. Man, I'd have never really guessed.
HALP: I am having a problem with my Moka pot / stovetop espresso. I can't seem to find the sweet spot. My first couple pots were awesome and since then I'm either brewing sour (too cold) or bitter (too hot) espresso. My stove has a rather high IBU, so I put it on medium low (4 out of 10) for approx 11 minutes. Any tips? Should I start hot and then turn it down? or leave it on 4 ? Should I remove immediately or make sure all the water has percolated up?
Did any attributes change? There are different size Moka pots, which one are you using? I typically stay around a 23g range. I also use heated water from a water dispenser to speed up the boiling process but what I try to target is a slow and steady stream, when it starts to pop from bubbles, I stop there.
I have two sizes, one big one and one personal one. I find it easier to get the big one right. I'll try starting with really hot tap water tomorrow morning
I know it's been a minute, but I was at the office this morning and this lady had an Aeropress. And she was considering a Chemex, and it was rad. Nobody I know in real life chases that good cup like I do. Hoping to convert her to a Chemex for home use! She did her research and everything. Super stoked, happy Friday everyone!
