When it looks like your having a seizure while trying to hold a lighthouse.... When people are at an event and film like 3 hours worth of Instagram stories.

I wouldn't call the 'lighthouse seizure' a bad trend. If anything, those people are either trying to find their balance after some crazy aerial catch or are still just learning how to balance their lighthouses. No problem with that. No matter how good you are or how long you've been playing, catching lighthouses, lunars, birds, or any sort of balance or stall trick can still be a challenge to catch.

Here is something else. I wouldn't call it a trend though, but here goes anyway. "Prove its" or "Rebates" during ken games. Sometimes I find it suitable and ok, other times I find it extremely annoying. I guess the one good thing about it is that it teaches you consistency. I remember during a sesh one person proved a multiple tap to juggle in (Don't know the exact number because I was not watching the ken game. All I remembered was (tap)^n - juggle - spike )

Yeah. Those are just rules of the game of KEN/DAMA/whichever you play. Which, like some games, you can choose to include or not if all players involved agree.

Something that's annoyed me lately is pros smoking on their stories or in their posts. I have nothing against you smoking, if that's what you want to do, go for it. Just when all these kids look up to you it might not be the best thing to be posting publicly.

extra white strings with a new dama. I wish more companies would hand out black or the same colored string a new setup comes with.

the blunt was shaped like a mf Kendama tho. lol
Totes understand pros need to be good role models for kids,

but from my perspective (as a stoner) I like when pros smoke makes them seem more like me ha.

I think you should be rockin' an icy outfit if you're going to make an edit. Gotta look as cool as possible 24/7.

It gives it that little extra bit of steez that makes the tricks or edit aesthetically pleasing. Maybe its random and just me but I'd rather watch stylin' dudes like TJ or Norx or someone like that rather than a dude wearing gym shorts and gym shoes.

Though it really is no big deal.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but I recall kids back in the day playing ken, and the winner would get the other person's kendama. This ruins the spirit of kendama for me.

Ohh yeah, pink slips were pretty popular in Singapore.
Ruins the mood a whole lot.

I remembered some establishments in Hawaii banned kendamas because of it.

Oh! I remember this sorta thing. Some kids in HI had shirts that were pink, and in big black block letters they said "I Play for Pinks" on the front of them, and the 'i' in 'pinks' was the shape of a kendama. LOL!

@Raven_Tomas @azleonhart @htimSxelA First I've heard of "pink slips" related to kendama play. When I was car racing, back in the day, that was a "thing" but like most gambling both sides need to understand that there's always a chance they can lose and if you can't afford to lose you don't play the game. FWIW "pink slip" name came from the color of the car title form so if you were racing for pink slips you would hand over the title to your car if you lost.

That's what the "pink slips" discussion above your post is all about!
    Major annoyance for me.

Stop posting clips and calling your tricks "soft." If you post it, own it. If you're worried about haters cutting you down then stay off the internet. Whether a trick is soft or a banger, its all relative to the player. Own your level and post what you're proud of.

This reminds me of a quote my high school band director told us all way back when.
    "Practice makes permanent"
Not perfect, permanent. If you practice something wrong, that's how you'll do it until you unlearn it and learn the right way.
(Me and juggles right now. Trying so hard not to just slap the tama on the jugs).

Also. Asking if a tama is sticky/tacky. Like those are the only kind of tamas worth buying and playing with, though there are a lot of companies coming out with their own sticky/grippy paint now. Not a bad thing itself.
I have my own share of tacky tamas, but the first thing that comes to mind when i see someone's setup (on insta or irl) isnt how sticky it is.

Unfortunately that seems to be a trend lately. A fair number of posts and overheard comments make it sound as if "plain" kendama are unplayable or uncool or both. On the other hand I've also run across the "natty or nothing" players too (got a lecture from one a couple of years ago). Everyone has their own preferences but that doesn't mean that if others don't share those preferences they are somehow less cool; different strokes. . .
