Lady above is my girlfriend and fellow dama girl, @Jenny Cho! Girls make better slayers because we motivate, inspire, support, and welcome each other all the time. Have you ever seen or heard of drama between two Kendama girls? We don't bring other girls (or players in general) down. We accept each other no matter what skill level, style, age, ethnicity, sexuality, religion, etc., or what Kendama we jam. We're a small number, but we make a huge impact in the Kendama community.
picture of Karen in her natural habitat. I'm always so hyped when I see other girls playing kendama and whenever I get to jam with other girls. There's definitely something about being around other girls who shreds that empowers you and I think that's what makes us better slayers.
This is a picture of me playing with my next gen hg. I think females are better slayers because we have more passion and courage when we play kendama. In general with male dominated sports it is hard for us ladies to get into the game. This, for some people, can be because of fear of judgement for being a female in a male dominated sport, or because there are no other females when you look at the sport. Especially with kendama there can be more judgement from my guy friends about my abilities in the game. In general you aren't taken seriously until you have proven yourself. So when a female plays kendama, we have more passion and courage when we do.
Here's a sick photo of Isaac's younger sister Daniela mid lace. Female dama players definitely slay because it can be difficult to become interested and pursue something that's done by mostly only male players. It definitely takes courage to put yourself out there and it's always super awesome to see females that succeed and even surpass males in some moments. Even if they aren't successful it cool to see people be open to trying something new. Overcoming that fear of being judged or even looked down upon is what makes female dama players stand out from all the others because it is definitely not an easy feat to accomplish. Shout out @makendama as well for being an og slayer and deepening our love of Kendama.
SS from a clip of mine! I don't particularly think girls are "better" at kendama, but I will say that I think we have more strength than the boys. Since we are such a small group compared to the males, it takes a special kind of girl to want to infiltrate and be a part of this community. Not many of us are out here, so we are like rare kendama gems
Also- any ladies on this thread please add me on Facebook! I want to add all of you to the Girls Kendama Collective FB group
Below is a pic of me (taken by my dad. lol) this past weekend at Japan fest in Houston! So at that moment in time, me and the Houston homies were demoing kendama on stage and invited anyone to come up and try and teach them how to big cup. It was amazing to see how stoked everyone was when they got big cup and spike for the first time. <3 I'm on the same boat that I don't think female slayers are "better" per se. I do think though that our sub-community is a force to be reckoned with! The ones I've met are so cool. They're all so supportive and everything.
So here's my entry! This is another one of my favorite pics from a shoot by a very talented photographer friend of mine sadly up where I'm at I'm the only kendama player period. I wish I had more dama sistas to slay with. I think girls make amazing kendama players Bc like a lot of ladies have already said we always cheer eachother on and lift eachother up. Also I think girls have a different kind of flow to our style, especially ladies that have a hooping background like I know a lot of us do! Slay on ladies!! <3
My wife slaying her Kaizen outside our house in her yukata kimono. I don't like to make generalizations, but girls make great slayers because they don't give up, are mentally tough, and so passionate about whatever they set their minds to.
