Umm I think using your other hand to 'reset' between attempts will be common, but not requisite. In this case, he had finished the tap in, popped it out, and flowed the throw to start the goon very well. The tama did come to a momentary stop, and then reversed directions, so in some overly critical sense maybe that would be the 'point of reset' between tricks? I was talking more about a situation like this: you do swing spike, double whirlwind (lvl 5-4) and then immediately do around USA (lvl 4-3) without resetting in between.
I've been using a wood finisher called Bee Kind on a lot of my kendama lately. You probably could get similar effects from @amagad's Dama Butter or Kenditioner.
It feels so odd though! I remembered trying one out at Yodobashi and i went nuts when i first saw it!
Woah that is bizarre. My son has one of the KDX kendamas with the standard size removable cups and bigger "training" cups!
Build your ideal set up then. Perfect for KWC me thinks. Did they start adding rubber into the cups on the KDX? My sons is just bare plastic and is extremely slippery!
Kendama Bumpers will help a little if you let them roll over the edge of the cup a bit but not as well as the polyurethane in a Catchy Air. For bigger cups I use the 1.75" Schwinn tubes instead of the smaller ones but YMMV since they tend to work better for stalls etc.
Japan is right around the corner. It will be fun to actually test the limits of dama modification. Full send. =)
It's warmer and generally one is likely to perspire. You don't have to be sweating hard. The tama will absorb what you let out. Personally, I don't sweat much around my forehead and I do not want to stick a tama under my arm because I stink most of the time. I'm a hand percussionist, so my hands are gems to breaking in my collection of natties.
Ok, thank you so much. When I am not doing anything with my hands I will definitely be holding my tama. Can't wait for the GT-KA to drop because I'm gonna get it. I'll use all these tips on that one too.
I figured the 2 cush and goon trick flow transition would be okay. I didn't realize that you actually couldn't do the other situation though, I always wondered why no one ever did that kind of transition because I always thought it would shave some time off.
I wanna exploit it further by asking this - right after the whirlwind, could i just bounce the tama off the spike, and in the same motion, tug it back onto the small cup and immediately start off USA? Will that bounce and tug be considered a reset?
I mean... I'm not a judge so if you actually want the answer, ask someone in the GLOKEN crew. But I would say.. if the tama fell and hit the end of the string (string goes taut), then yea if you want to just yank on it to get it to small cup, I guess I would allow it? I think in most cases you'll have more of an advantage taking a split second to fully reset it and get proper control on your next pull up.
@Nick Lectura @azleonhart check this speed trick B rip: I think the JKA records are like just under 20s, how crazy is that? The reset in between tricks is SO fast, it almost is a yank, but the other hand is there at just the right second to steady it out before the next trick begins.
Yeeeeeet! Rob ripping it outta the house! Personally liked Akimoto’s take though. Thing is, these gentlemen have been classically trained (i don’t believe i’m actually saying this either), for years to master the very subtle transitions. Speed Trick B is made to disrupt flow by forcing you to switch between tama and ken grip and vice versa, but KWC is a very different thing altogether, don’t you think? So many permutations and possibilities to do it. I’ve had my own success in staying in one grip for as long as i can, and then switching to the other when the former has been completed, but most times, things don’t go the way you want it to.
I know this is taking us away from topic, but talking of speed trick B this has gotta be one of the fastest I've seen and Li Ho is no slouch!
Ummm, i just ran that through my stopwatch. And that may be the world record at 17.7 seconds. FYI : Li Ho said "She's so faaaaast ~" at the end.
