I was just wondering what headphones you guys use to listen to music while you play dama (if you do at all). *disclaimer - not sponsored by Skullcandy* For me, I use the Skullcandy Ink'd 2 ear buds, because they are comfy, have decent water resistance (sweat), have good sound, and are cheap (retail for $30, can be found on sale for as low as $13).
(Audiophile nerd here) I used my Shure SE530 for a few years, till the cable gave way. Kinda sad, but i’m saving up to have it recabled someday. I use the foam tips, these isolate about 85-90% of outside noise! Currently using a Denon AH-C100 with silicone earbuds.
For me, it depends on where im jamming: If i want to tune out everything, then I use the good ol' skullcandy inkd ear buds (not the 2 because ive had these for a longgggggg time before they had the controls in-line lol) If i want to still hear my surroundings (for safety reasons or like chatting with people), i LOVE using Aftershokz Trekz Titanium (bone conduction headphones). It still produces great sounds while you're still able to hear the outside world lol like a continual background soundtrack
I am convinced the RHAM750 are the best IEM under $200, and they are about $100. Though it really depends on what kinds of music you are into.
Music tech minor and nerd here. I use my Shure S215's from mixing and mastering to playing Kendama and everything in between. They also have replaceable chords which makes them last much much longer than any other pair of headphones I've had before
The 530s have a legendary sound, but it’s Achilles’ heel is the weak cable by the earpiece itself. Also doesn’t help that they’re not detachable (glad to know Shure has learned since by implementing the stiff wire near the earpiece and including detachable cables). I hope to send it to a company in Singapore which can convert these into a detachable set. Hopefully they can still retain (or better, improve) the sound sig of these. If i had more funds, converting them into CIEMs will be awesome, but those things cost hella much.
I use Sennheiser CX-300 II 's whenever I decide to play dama with music. I think I got mine through Amazon for like $20-ish. Honestly, they're best sounding earbuds I have ever owned, and they have outlived all of my other buds - going on almost a year and a half now.
Apple heaphones, its affordable, easy to travel with, and there's no rubber piece plunging out your ear canal. you can't beat the classics
@Dan Reinstein you just reminded me of a pair I had back in 2002: Sure E3C. They were my workhorses I used in every studio session for about 4-5 years!! I also used them dangerously on my bike commutes and sweated profusely with them. The end was brought on by the cord splitting open behind my ear. I moved on to some AKG 240's. Those are only good for playback, and are probably horrible during dama sessions. I'm glad you reminded me about those Sure's. With their updated replaceable cable feature (I have replaced my AKG cable twice in about 7 years) they are definitely worth the price point.
If you haven’t disposed of them yet, i’m pretty sure there are companies and/or individuals offering recabling services for your Shure! Sound sig may be a bit different, but at least it’s way better than letting them stagnate in the drawer!
I wouldn't even know where to start looking. My best guess is it's at my parents house in a garage or some other dusty box. I hope to recover it sometime and service it. They were a dream!
Generally I play with some ath-m50s in my house, or if I'm out filming or whatever I'll wear some Bluetooth 808 earcanz. Both are some amazing headphones, I definitely recommend both!
Been using these cordless Plantronics lately. I like that they are "sports" headphones (water/sweat resistant) and they really let in the outside noise so you don't get run over by a truck but that's their only drawback if you're in a safe but noisy environment.
i have some Beats Solo HD’s that i really love, but for edc i use some basic apple earpods. really nice for on the go
What was involved? I need to swap the cable on my Grados, they're like 7 years old prob and have gone really stiff. I modded them years ago, cocobolo cups with B&W ebony inners, on 125is. These are the shit!
Mannnnnnn i had a pair of Denon D2000's that i sold off, to focus more on mobile setups. I should've kept them, and commission you to make wooden cups for those cans.
AKG's make their cable replaceable with a mini-XLR to mini-jack. Straight cable Coiled cable I've seen some DIY options for cheaper if you are looking to rig your rig.
