I'm Jacob Watts and I'm 15 I have been playing for two years now and The kendama community just expanded at Ayala highschool in Chino hills California because me and my friend created a club at our school and it went better than we thought we had lots of people come out and we jammed for about an hour. I had the honor of teaching people lots of tricks and hanging with some people I have never met before at my school. I'm so proud of every one who made it out and love to spread kendama love. If anyone is in the area and wants to jam hit me up. I also recently went to the summer squeeze and got to hang out with a lot of pros that I have met before. I love the orange jams and all the local kendama fests. That is why we created a club to do our own little jams.

I'm Guy, and I am 16 years old. Ive been playing kendama for just over two and a half years. The reason I love the kendama scene in Mammoth, California is that is has been perfectly incorporated into the lives of my friends, and the lives of many of the people I know. With most of us being freestyle skiers, skaters, or athletes in other individual/mountain sports, kendama aligns with our perspective on self-progression and our enthusiasm toward learning tricks. I can take out my kendama at any point with my friends, and everyone will be hyped to play it, whether they focus on kendama avidly or not.

although there has never been a scene were I live
that being said I feel like the kids at my school have a respect for kendama that they don't have for any other toys

My names matt gannon. I live in Virginia Beach Virginia ,and I've been playing kendama for a year and a few months. What makes the scenes out here special is that no one really plays kendama , except fellow Downspike user tortilla_gorilla and a few others who live about 40 minutes away from a brotha . I walk everywhere though and and I'm constantly playing kendama on my walks so I've come across a few bystanders who are very interested , mostly in the homeless community honestly . If nothing it's a great conversation piece to make new friends and for that I'm thankful. I have given a couple away to various acquaintances and I hope it sticks so one day we can have a scene out here. I remain hopeful !

It's funny how words in Malay sound similar to Tagalog, but mean way different things.

Salamat means thanks in Tagalog, but means happy/safe (selamat) in Malay.
Mahal means love in Tagalog, but means expensive in Malay!

Ahh! I've been pondering that as well. Also, Mahal can also mean "expensive" in Tagalog! It's a case of words having multiple meanings depending on context. :)
