thoight it would be cool to see what dama was the most impactful in your playing. It might be your first dama or one that you just laced a load of stuff on or maybe the one your jamming right now Mine was probably my Wyatt bray mod because I laced a load of new tricks on it for the first time- bird, handle stall, 1 up lighthouse, 1 up airplane, UFO, sweets special and loads more. A close second would be my kaizen 2.0 (the yellow and purpley one) as I learnt two of the most iconic tricks on it- lunar and whirland! So yeah what was your most impactful dama?
My most impactful kendama for me was my first kendama, a red ozora I bought in Japan. I put in so much work on this thing until I bought my second dama (which you could say was my 2nd most impactful one since I landed my first lunar and lighthouse on the rubber-painted tama), but it was through playing with my classic red ozora that I first discovered my passion and drive for Kendama.
I will say sweets prime avalanche. I learned a lot of new crazy tricks, one world first, and a lot more just freaking hard. Definitely my best dama ever.
Birthday Slaydawg, I just got it at the perfect time when I was learning a lot of intermediate tricks and my level of play just took off.
Well my first dama (a red trib) was the one that made me want to get a second one. My second one (white aTack) was the one that unlocked a lot of new tricks for me. Then my third one (rasta aTack) was the one that got me consistent on a lot of tricks. So I would say all 3 were super impactful on me
A couple years ago I had a setup that was straight fire. Hot pink roots tama on a TK 16 Ken. I locked in my lunar style on that thing while touring the east coast playing music. To this day I've only played a couple other damas that I've enjoyed as much as that one.
Krom Party Pelle! Most of my progress up until this point was done on that dama. And I played it throughout the best time of my whole life so that dama has a ton of sentimental value to me. I love it. And it looks sexy I mean come on.
The KUSA Padauk mint, I progressed a ton as a beginner The GT Aynedter Mod, I progressed a ton as an intermediate - advanced
My turner thorne pro mod was my third kendama and progressed tons on it, it's my most honed dama fore sure!
For sure my light blue Yomega solid! My first dama got me pretty far within my first few months using it before I bought a yellow/black half-split later on a year after. The half-split is second up because it was my first grippy kendama that helped me level up pretty far in a shorter amount of time than the Yomega did. Finally, my Alex Ruisch legend model I bought from HNL Kendama the day right before they had their final jam there. It was my first pro model, and it's currently my only memory that I have of HNLK's walk-in shop before it closed.
Kaizen 2.0 maple x cushion clear Fruit Punch maple stripe. The 2.0 was my second dama and the fruit punch was my third. No matter what I'm learning or after I learn it, I always verify it on this setup.
My first impactful Dama was my first Frankenstein! My first Dama was a Solar F3! Loved the paint and tama but was not a fan of the F3 ken! So ordered a Wenge Roots ken! That thing became such a beast that I still call it my work Dama! Any trick that inevitably is gonna end up with my Dama going slamming into the ground gets practiced on that! Some nice chips and damage inflicted in the past 3 years but still beloved! I’ll post some pictures later tonight when I get home!
My first kendama, the TK16 below (retired), really got me into the sport and my first "sticky" kendama a Sweets aTack Rasta helped me expand my comfort zone. I still regularly go back to a TK16 to sharpen my skills and just for the nostalgia.
One of my most impactful damas is the KROM Bamboo I own. This kendama fits my style, and to an extent my physiology, to a tee. I love lunars, and the ken's lunar balance is almost horizontal. I have notoriously sweaty hands, and the natty tama absorbs the sweat like nothing. It gives the tama a tack that i'd like to describe as the "Poor Man's Cushion Clear." I love downspikes, and the crack of the bamboo is second to none. So, in summary, I am blessed to have such a beast of a dama.
Probably my hard bamboo kendama from Lion Head Kendama. Got it about 3-4 months into playing as my 5th dama and my first 'real' traditional style kendama. My first 4 were the Tribute-style ones you see at Target and Walmart, definitely were fun to play at the time but getting what to me felt more like a real kendama definitely cemented my love for this little wooden toy. Another would be this red Tribute-style I got as my 4th dama in Hawaii. Put in a lot of work and got my first lighthouse on it (glossy paint, I remember getting absolutely stoked and trying to stay perfectly still to hold it for 3 seconds). This dama definitely helped me learn a lot.
My second kendama and third kendama - a Tribute Kanji and a Green Ozora Galaxy. These two really solidified kendama's place in my life, and were the first kendamas that I learned intermediate tricks on. Plus, these two are some of the coolest looking kendamas out there IMO
Rly? Hmm I'm gonna have to check this out. I have a half-assed collection of fresh Galaxy damas, I think 3 of them? Not sure how many there were total... 4? 5? Blue, red, green... pink? ?
