Hey, I've noticed (although I have never had one), that in videos and pictures the spike on sweets kendamas looks very long compared to other kendamas. What are the pros and cons of this long spike?
I wouldnt say that it is too much longer. Some of the spectras are a little bit longer but typically a longer spike makes for a better lunar balance, usually at the expense of slinger consistency.
Cushions are more durable but honestly out of all their paints I like the proclear the best. I feel it makes you work for the tricks a little more but when you hit the trick just right it is so clean you might just cry.
I started out with sweets Kendama's so the long spikes seem too natural. To me all other Kendama's have short spikes, only difference to me is I have more flick control for earth turns
Yo, so listen up. Any sweets dama isn't much "taller" than any other dama (unless specificed). Any kendama can be a longer spike, it's just about the relationship between the sarado (cups) and the sword (spike). If you push the cups down further, the spike is going to look longer.. I think sweets damas cups just naturally get pushed down further (either cause the sword is a bit slimmer than others). You can have full spike length control on any dama by either gluing the sarado in place or sliding a piece of paper under the cups so the sword is essentially thicker. short or long spike isn't better or worse, it's just up to your personal preference. I prefer a shorter spike because there is more handle to grab on tricks.
Yea, totally agree. i prefer a bit of a longer spike, simply cause it boosts the lunar balance on even pretty crappy balanced kens. I also dont think that it is specific to sweets. almost all kens that i jam for a long time get a longer spike. DWI seems to have the biggest problem with this for me. ye. if you like kusa, even grab a 2.0, they slay.
KendamaUSA has a lot of kendamas that are in my opinion, far superior to anything sweets has. KUSAs 2.0s and crafts are amazing, as well as their recent pro models. If you are sort of done with KUSA, get a sweets prime custom, and if you have the money, get a grain theory
