I always use some Oil from IKEA. Something for wood countertops in the kitchen which keeps the water away and makes the grain pop HARD Made my padauk a real nice red/brown and my birch/ash kens a little darker with the grain showing through real good. I rub on one coat with a rug, let it sink in over night & add another coat let dry a few hours rub it in with another rug and it's good to go
In my experiences, It makes it more durable, and the grain definitely pops. I have only kenditionered a couple damas tho.
Yeah ive done a couple now but they have been natty damas. I didn’t know if it was going to effect l a painted tama because of the oil from the kenditioner.
Mainly, it doesn't chip as easily. The spike doesn't really get effected too much, but maybe it will take a single more spike hit to get it flat, but mainly, kenditioner only helps with chipping, and popping out the grain.
Interesting, thanks. Perhaps wood finishers in general help keep the wood from drying so they're not as brittle at the edges. One thing that's mentioned often with other wood finishing products is reapplication "for best results." It's likely that the same would apply here.
Too bad there isn’t a good way to see if it actually protects against chips because there are a lot of variables that cause a chip to happen.
Would be hard to prove or disprove I think as well. For myself I'm not looking for the magic bullet that makes wood impervious to chipping but I do really like the results I've been getting out of the Bee Kind, and other, wood finishers I've been using. I just like that it makes the wood look nice and shields it from grime and moisture.
Yeah... Sadly. It ma just be that I play my kendished damas lighter, but there is one thing for sure. The grain DEFINITELY pops out.
There should be other threads on here about it, but I will say this...I dont think I’ve heard of anyone disappointed/regretting buying and using kenditioner
