This is definitely annoying. If they want that kind of attention they should focus on being a rapper or something. Kendama isn’t the place for that kind of behavior. Stop trying to be Bam Margera!
I just watched Bam Margera's Epicly Later'd. As much as I loved CKY as a kid, you don't really want to end up like Bam I guess. I think it was B Novak that had a line in that episode, something about how he had this realization that they were just the stereotypical small town dudes that found some fame and glory, and all turned into drunk idiots / drug addicts, and that he found that so sad. Interesting that Novak was one of the most messed up dudes in their crew, but seems to really be on top of turning his shit around lately. He did a reddit AMA a while ago that was amazing. He was literally just posting his phone number in the comments of people that were posting saying they were struggling with substance abuse as well, like "Hey dude! Call me if you want, lets talk about it, maybe I can help". Wild! Uh.. I feel like this post took a dark turn. So I'm gonna end it by saying I'm annoyed how many insta clips I see that start with a shot of the player missing the trick, then the next attempt they land it. wtf! You can literally trim it right in instagram. No excuses, I don't wanna watch someone miss. lol
How much does this relate to Kenyatta’s TTT posts where he shows/edits his misses in the beginning before the actual lace?
I haven’t seen that yet but I’m about to look it up. Camp Kill Yourself was pretty rad but I never got into HIM.
Actually I didn't have his in mind at all, more just raw clips that start too early. I guess, funny enough, I'd prefer to see some 'good' misses edited in, rather than just the uncut clip with the miss. Although generally I find heavily edited insta clips to be a little obnoxious.
I agree on this. I believe that you have a short 10-second window to capture the audience, before they scroll away. So filling it with unnecessary padding simply makes me bored fast and scroll away even before they are finished with their snazzy fluff pieces. Puttting 60s on insta might have been bad news for most dama players. Leave the edits for YouTube, thank you very much. Just get to the point, make us drool for more, and end.
People telling others it’s basically ok to drop everything and quit their job to go to a dama event (big or small) with the argument ‘Memories > Money’ While that’s all well and good, and a very good way to live your life, memories and kendama still won’t pay the bills or put food on the table.
To paraphrase J. Wellington Wimpy (from the Popeye cartoon): I'd gladly trade you a kendama for a hamburger today. (I haven't gotten that to work yet at my local burger joint.)
Kendama videos with multiple missed trick attempts (EDIT THAT OUT, FOOL!) or a failure to spike/finish a trick and posting it anyway (DOES NOT COUNT!) Horseshoes and hand grenades people!
Here's one: Settling for a certain style or a set of tricks when playing kendama. Sometimes people are afraid to get creative because they want to stick to tricks they can lace consistently. Example is me a few months into my dama journey: I only ever did string tricks. Get creative and lace outside of your comfort zone!
Out of frame tricks. I don't take it against people though since it really does happen in the moment (especially with selfie bangers).
Personally, i see that hard to consider a trend (something done purposefully). More like bad/poor habits (not really on purpose) or (like kendama) something to practice and improve on, especially with selfie style play (Rolf Ganer rocks at these). I can see it as a bad ‘trend’ if it’s a stationary camera and people post them anyways if they are out of frame. It’s as if they don’t pre-screen their clips and just choose to post it because they finally got the trick but we can’t see half of what’s going on or what they’re doing because the tama/ken is getting flipped up and out of frame.
"close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades" Almost getting a trick is not the same as hitting the trick unlike in the game of Horseshoes where getting close to the metal spike gives you points. Also applies with hand-grenades where an explosion in the general area of your enemy still will likely hit the enemy (unlike a gun shot which has to be accurate).
