Welcome to the Would you rather? thread for kendama! Here's how it works: The OP (me) will post a "Would you rather"-style question that is kendama related (e.g. would you rather play painted or natty kendamas for your whole life?). The next commenter/poster will then answer that question (with optional explanation) and ask his/her own "Would you rather" question. This is to be answered by the next poster, and so on. Let's have a little fun! I'll start: Would you rather have: 1. a super heavy setup (180-200g), or 2. a super light setup (less than 120g)? Assume both ken and tama are weight matched.
super heavy, I hate juggling with light damas. would you rather only be able to do kengrip tricks for the rest of your life or only be able to do tama grip tricks?
kengrip allows you to flip, juggle, and stall still, i feel like i'd get bored with just tama grip after a while. would you rather have to replace the string every time you got a knot, or play without a string for the rest of your life?
Replace the string anytime I get a knot. I would just be careful lol.. Only Grain Theory kendamas for the rest of your life, only Crafts for the rest of your life, or only HomeGrowns. (All hardwood) (I know thats 3)
Only GTs for the rest of my life. They're the hardest ones to get and their shapes are awesome. Go to KWC or Catch and Flow?
Catch and Flow. The vibes and freestyle flow is way more appealing. Would you rather slay every combo harder than anyone but always miss them in front of people and/or a camera OR almost make podium at each and every event (4th place)?
I would almost make podium just because I would want to be known for trying. Would you rather play in a confined space or a huge dark room with little to no light?
Confined space. You can adapt to a confined space, but you can't even lace in a dark room. Would you rather jam a red Ozora or a red TK-16?
Depends on the break-in. I'd probably take the TK brand new, but the Oz if it's broken in. WYR: Be extremely good at every trick but have no style, or be beginner/intermediate always but have a LOT of creativity and style?
Be beginner/intermediate always but have a LOT of creativity and style. But I still I assume that every player even they're good nor bad still they have their own style :3 Would you rather be Sweets Pro Team or Krom Pro Team?
Tough. Both have a lot of great reasons to be a part of their team. Would probably go with Sweets, love me some custom cushion cleared damas. Would you rather... Play with ONE single kendama for the rest of your life OR use only buy the same single kendama after it’s been seshed to death (destroy all damas)? (Example. ONE keyaki ozora for life or keep buying keyaki ozoras when the previous one is not playable anymore and beyond repair and not play any other dama).
I'll go with the latter. I'd rather spend money on new damas when they get seshed beyond repair rather than spend an eternity with just one (which will be seshed anyway). Would you rather have a kendama that is: -super honed for balance tricks but you can never get stalls on, or -super honed for stalls but you can never get get balance tricks on?
I think I would go with balance tricks. As much as I love bird tricks, I've been leaning more towards lighthouses and lunars lately. Plus tricks like Borders Balance, Tightrope and Solar Flare fall under that category so it'd be sick to just bust those out on the fly like nobody's business. Would you rather: - be able to paint your own damas but not be able to replicate any of the sticky/grippy clears and paints out there now (terra paint, cushion/prime clear, LOL/super sticky, silk/rubber, etc) - have access to any one sticky/grippy clear or paint available currently, but no control over what kind of dama you get with it on.
I would go with painting my own damas! If i don't have access to any sticky clear formulas out there, a little research goes a long way in making one's own. Would you rather: -Go head to head in open against So Kanada, or -Go head to head in freestyle against Nick Gallagher?
Depends on what competition (though I'm assuming it'd be big name comps like MKO). Probably Freestyle. Would you rather: - Turn your own kendamas using a wood lathe and tools by hand using exotic, unique woods rarely/yet to be used for kendamas (very small batch every month) - Use an automated machine to do it for you using generic beech and birch woods (large batches every month)
automated machined beech and birch. Love me some beech wood. Would rather -only play KUSA for the rest of your life -only play sweets for the rest of your life
Only play sweets forever. That is too easy of a question. To be honest, there isn't much that I like from KUSA.
I can't recomend them enough. Great for the price as well. I live near the Gallagher twins and I got to jam their mods today. I would wait for them if I were you. They are too good.
I may get Zack's, but as I am a kid and don't have a job, I might wait and ask for them for christmas, it's close enough.
