Now I don't know if anyone's posted this before, but... What are the worst weights that you've received on a freshie? I've gotten an 82g Philip Eldridge mod ken matched with a 73g tama, but I never noticed the difference until recently! Also have a Sweets blue/seafoam/purple marble tama weighing in at 80g matched with an F2 ken that weighed 71g!
Maple Ozora 68g ken and 84g tama aghhhhhh. 16g difference was to much for me so I bought a 68g maple tama off of Kendama.cz store. The Ozora and Kendama.cz tamas look exactly alike so no one knows.
Just got an Iji pro mod earlier today and at first it felt hefty but seemed fine anyways. It wasn't until later I weighed it and the ken was 80g and the tama was a whopping 97.6g. haha eh.. still will jam as is.
Unfortunately a few of my favorite kens can make this list My KROM red oak hors and my HG maple pph both have the tamas +15g heavier than the kens.
Back in high school, one of my oldest friends surprised me and another friend with a 2013 Colin Sander Ivy pro model, the full cherry version. He sent us both a picture of what the store had and told us that he had a hookup if we wanted any. We didn't particularly want anything, but he came back and surprised us both with it anyway. Sorry rambling but that was the context. The box I ended up picking had a cherry trib ken that weighed around 72 g, give or take a couple grams. Awesome weight. The tama ended up being 110 g. To this day I still have no ken to put it on and jam, which sucks cause that run of the KUSA pro model paint is pretty grippy. If only I could find one of those super old REZ kens that weighed above 100 g..
like @James Hoang said, you could have someone hand turn you something in a super unique hard wood. Finding like a Craft + shape made out of Oak would be so gnarly and heavy. perfect for what you'd need.
I gotta lol @ people complaining about a less than 10g difference on an inexpensive made-in-China product I used to have an excel spreadsheet with the weights of ken/tama recorded for a few hundred kendamas, from a number of different brands (Ozora, Terra, Kusa, etc). Sadly my laptop was stolen, and it wasn't a super important file that I had stored in a backup.. crap! Personally, I don't expect any sort of weight-matching unless the product is over $60 USD, and even then, there are exceptions to that rule. There are damas out there with a high price tag that definitely don't get weight-matched at all. It doesn't mean they're bad damas, it just means its a bit of a crap-shoot if you're ordering one. Maybe it'll be perfect, maybe not. My worst was probably my Keyaki Musou. I paid almost $300 CAD all said and done to get it, and the tama was like 25g heavier than the ken
Heyyy i have that spreadsheet, too! Nice to know that i’m not the only lunatic who keeps such records. Use Numbers tho, it saves on iCloud, and makes backups easy.
I just unpacked my worst yet. Sol ash cups Flow...77gram ken. 99 gram ash tama. Kinda upset because the Pompeii I got was also way off, 17 gram difference on that one. I kinda expected it to be on the heavy side but only the tamas were the heavy part.
I gave the lesser of the two off weights to my brother because he loved how it felt, he is still pretty noob. I emailed Chad about it, hopefully I can just send the tama back for one closer in weight.
I believe that's only for certain flows edit: the pompeii is one of those that are hand weighted, but the ash cups is not.
Well I gave my brother the Pompeii but that one was 16 grams off. And I still think over 20 grams is a pretty large gap.
