Hello Beginners Of Kendamas! Im here to answer any questions you have about kendama! Tricks, To Woods, to Brands and many more! Feel free to ask anything!
Massive beginner here... what are the tips to actually get consistent when catching it in the big cups? Right now it bounces all the time and I can't really figure out what I'm doing wrong with the motions to get consistency.
Mr. Bishop. How i started was by using alot of my knees. Cushioning the tama and going down with the ball can give it a great difference as it will come into the cup very nicely. One tip to remember is to definitely use your knees. There isnt more i could say. Try getting it 10 times in a row and if you can get that using lots of your knees, move on to doing it with less knees. that way, the more you do that the less you will need to use your knees and the better you get at the cups. Hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions.
I watched that video in the other thread and he talked about the knees too. I tried that today (one of the other guys at the office has a dama) and I did get it a few times. My hand is still super shaky though... but I can see what you mean that you really have to go with the ball and minimize the impact as much as possible. Was it super hard for you guys at first too or did you get it right off the bat?
If its the hands that are the problem (shaking) your probably doing something like a tug so the ball goes out of control and has a hard impact on the cup. If that is the case you should practice going up with the ball and coming down with it as well. Also try loosening your grip. That may help so that the ken isnt so sensitive. Feel free to ask any more questions if you do
HOLY SHIT! That was the ticket. Nailed like 5 big cup catches in a row, and probably 12 or so total in the session. Game changer. Thanks man! I also got a (The?) Moshikame from that other thread. Dude, you just started my new hobby! I owe ya!
I even managed to get big cup to the (bottom cup?) and back to big cup. Game changer day man, thanks so much! Can't wait for my Colin Sander pro to get here.
Oh dude nice! Colin Sanders is a beast for balance tricks! you should try Lighthouse sometime! Also for the base cup, its bit smaller than the big cup so the more knees you use should keep it steady, in case if it keeps falling off.
The knees was key, as was catching downwards with the hands. I think that was the ticket that changed the game for me.
I do not know. Just letting you know if you have anything you want to know about you can ask me! i know quite a bit... im the kendama nerd type
Getting a touch more consistent but my Kendama hasn't arrived yet so I'm still using the one from the office. So its pretty distracting when I just walk into his office and play for 10 minutes. Real game changer is when I get mine and can take it home to fuck around with while watching TV or whatever. How much practice did it take you guys to start getting to the point where you could try more advanced tricks?
