I wanted to take on the task of compiling an ongoing trick list for kendama but I am not sure if it would be better to start a list here and then edit this original post each time someone submits a trick that is not on the "MASTER" list yet or if it would be better to take input on the list and compile it elsewhere. I am not sure if this list would be just the names of the trick or if each trick would come with a video of someone completing the trick. The video additions could start almost like a chart, first the trick itself and then a video or someone doing the trick, which could be replaced by a tutorial when one is available.

Anyone have any ideas on what would be the best way to start compiling with MASTER list? I feel this will really benefit people who want to learn new tricks. We could also come up with a way to enter these tricks into a randomizer that allows the user to build random trick combos based off of their skill level and which level the tricks are assigned to. I know this is a major undertaking and there are already resources that are similar to this but I feel they have conflicting names for tricks and are often lacking certain variations on tricks.

    Input...go.

Open a public Google spreadsheet would probably be the best way. I'd say add Trick name, a good clip or tutorial video, and maybe a description.

what about variables like amounts of turns though?

That is an issue I was thinking about too. I think it would have to cap at a certain point. Or it could also serve as a record sheet...like if someone does a 14 tap to airplane in and that is the record then there wouldnt be a 15 tap to airplane in until someone does it and can provide video proof.

I loooove lists. Please please do this. I think for variables like amount of turns, we can have a separate field or column that people can filter if variables are available or have been done for a particular trick. A master list should display all tricks that people can try out. A record sheet to log what tricks have been landed should be separate.

@lategreat808 maybe you could create a group of people with a shared Google sheet. If it was completely open for anyone to post, curating it would be a nightmare. Will you have a "Japanese name" and "AKA" (also known as) column?

What about the sorting, would it be alphabetical or would you try to make it by difficulty? FWIW I'd probably go alphabetical to make it easier to search, you could always make columns that said Basic, Intermediate, Advanced that could be selected to indicate the level (which could be kind of hard to group since everyone thinks of tricks differently).

FYI There are a few kendama Wikis out there too. Some have limited lists too.

Bottom cup -> spike -> big cup -> spike -> little cup -> spike -> top cup -> spike -> super top cup -> spike

    - "top cup" is like penguin bottom cup, but you catch it 'above nipple height'... so its more in front of you, and less penguin-like
    - "super top cup" is one step further, its a big cup catch, but you rotate the ken around even further than you do for top cup. The higher you catch this one (think: shoulder height), the easier it will be to get into the right position. If you do it right, you do not need to adjust from normal ken grip at all (in fact, adjusting the ken in your hand would be a 'miss' in our most cuthroat of games).

If you take the spikes out of the combo, it will help it make sense. You start at bottom cup, and then rotate the ken through all of the cups (big, little, top, super top). The direction of rotation is constant, until you hit the top! (because Canada is way up north). Also, there are no penguins in Canada, so make sure your top cups are properly.. top-y.

    Some variations:

Around N America = Around Canada with earth turns after every spike (basically, around Canada & USA combined)
Canada Goose = Around Canada with birds instead of spikes

IIRC @Instagrom3 did it for the DSCE3.
May be wrong about this, but do check it out (first trick in the edit).
    Can @htimSxelA verify?

@lategreat808 Merged your thread with TJ's since they cover the same topic but here's hoping you carry on curating the thread to end up with an actual trick list resource.

If you get it into a spreadsheet first you can probably pull it into a database on down the road if you're just swimming in free time. Had something similar we were working on so got it into the sheet but haven't yet gotten it into the DB. :D

I am first going to get all the info compiled into an Excel book and then covert it over to Google sheets I think.
