hmmmm, maybe if these *hypothetical* people put more time into kendama then they did on Downspike I wouldn't have 50 DS alerts every day then... from the same *hypothetical* people...

Luckily, I'm not suffering from that haha. I feel for you though, I turned off my phone's notifications for DS for the same reason a long time ago.

Gotta filter it down to just the important stuff, I have the basic notifications all turned off, but the 'more interesting ones' are still on. The push notifications that get sent out about big events / promotions / etc are usually worth checking out

I check here pretty frequently which is why I have push notification off. As for the in app notifications, it only lets me know if I have a mention or reply.

Yea, thats the way to go. Nothing worse than an app blowing up your phone

**looks angrily at instagram. I dont care how many people viewed my video! That stat is completely meaningless, considering insta constantly asks me to pay them in order to increase views**

For real! You get some extra tools for starting a biz profile, but I'm fairly certain they also just restrict your views even harder unless you pay up.

This all comes back onto the OP's topic:
Having so much kendama social media dependant on Facebook/insta is a bad trend! Shoutout DownSpike

I'm not sure if this has been brought up before (I don't have the time to backread this entire thread), but

Kendama "posers" are annoying. They wear a kendama on their necks as a form of "bling" without actually knowing how to use it. Most of these people, I see on Instagram.

Maybe others would see it as better exposure for Kendama, but it doesn't sit well with me.

“Know how to use it.” Can you show an example? That’s a little ambiguous to say as those who wear one more than likely play Kendama (no matter their skill level) IMO.

Apologies, I may have gotten a bit over my head saying that in the heat of the moment. I didn't mean to say "don't know how to use it." Anyone can use kendama with enough instruction.

I was referring to certain people who seem to use kendama as aesthetic while not actually putting serious effort into progressing (note: I used the word "seem" since I can't speak for them). Not to say that these are mutually exclusive (case in point: TJ Kolesnik).

One example for me is officialkendamababe on instagram. I may be wrong since I don't know her personally, but I feel like she's using kendama more as an accessory.

    Again, just my two cents.

I’ve seen her page on IG, and while she doesn’t post as many tricks (when she does they’re not so stellar in compassion to someone like The Gallaghers or Liad), in her defense at least she caught a spacewalk in on camera. Additionally, she’s also self aware that she ain’t the greatest so I can’t fault someone for that. However, I can emphasize how this could possibly expose kendama to pretentious kendama players, but I have a feeling those people are put into their place sooner rather than later.

Personally, I don't think she'd fall under that demographic you're trying to explain. While she does seem to like having and using her damas as an accessory (again, 'seem' used just like you did) she also seems to be really into kendama, just goes about it differently than how we would or how we normally see others do.
Like @KirStylez said, she doesn't post as many tricks and her level is still pretty much beginner, and maybe she (and some other people) are fine with where their skill level lies.
Kind of curious what other examples of these kind of people you have, though.

As far as I know, she is Bonz's GF and plays a fair bit.
My GF also only plays sometimes but I'll get her her own ken soon cause she likes the vibe and also the colours.
Another Girl I know only buys kendamas for the looks and handicraft. For example she bought a natty with the flower of life burned on the tama just cause she sees it as art

Think her being Bonz's girlfriend is something we all know by now haha. Lucky guy to find a girl and introduce her to kendama and get her as hooked on it as she's shown.
As for the other person you mentioned, so many other players that some may deem as 'true' or 'actual' collectors do the same with what we'd call OG kendamas or rare drops or special kendamas (JKA Mugens, Sakuras, Anniversary Ozoras, etc) and they never see play either. So to me there isn't really a difference between her and those players other than what they choose to collect.
I know of a guy whose friend's mom was gifted a JKA Mugen from another friend in Japan and none of them knew the significance it held until he saw it, as far as I know they never play it either but they hold it dear because it was a gift.

If you know what (or who) I mean... like, I’m a Honed member but not to point any fingers....

Also, I love it when o play Kendama and the kids think it’s awesome because I can do tricks that are hard to them, but sometimes I feel like it can be slightly discouraging?

Dont know if this is a trend bevause I’ve only seen one person state this belief, but thought it was absolutely hilarious.
Thinking cushion clear is used on natty tamas and cush clear is used on painted tamas LMAO
