I saw a comment on Dave Cher's youtube video today that said something like, Dave, can you recommend me a good kendama for juggles and late kenflips? Now it may just be me, but that seems kind of dumb imo. You can do juggles and kenflips with any dama...
That's been a trend that's been going on for too long now. I've seen some people make the change to give credit, but a lot of people don't. Like a good part of the vibe a edit has is due to the music. To not give them the credit they deserve is downright rude. I don't make music myself, but rather been a rep for Chillhop Records for many years and seen many Chillhop artists have their music used but not credited.
When a pro follows you then unfollows a week later. This has happened to me way too many times on instagram...
People in the community starting drama over even perceived negativity, and once that blows over constantly referencing it by posting things like "What's with all the negativity and drama? Let's just spread love and positivity!" I've had less manufactured drama and mandated positivity shoved down my throat in this community than in high school and retail life respectively. Not everything in Kendama is going to be an absolute ray of sunshine, not everyone is going to think that X topic is the coolest thing ever with no faults whatsoever, get over it. Butthurt helps nothing.
Agreed. Some conversations need to be had in my opinion. Prime example of that is Adam 22 (who is himself one of the "Worst Trends in Kendama" because of how much clout he holds in the community in spite of his sexual misconduct allegations).
Exactly. I can see the value in keeping things light, but at the same time if the community can't handle introspection and heavy situations, it's not going to last.
Starting a new comment instead of replying to the original post. (This one is sarcasm, something absolutely inane to get flustered over, like who unfollows you on instagram )
Current worst trend: Referencing 'the community' as if it is some monolithic body with well-defined attributes that everyone in it must follow, and being upset when 'the community' doesn't adhere to what you think is right. Don't be fooled by a few loud individuals, they alone do not define the community as a whole. There are plenty of people in kendama who are very reasonable individuals. Many of them never stop by the FKC, or DS. But also don't forget that kendama is a world-wide phenomenon, so there are probably also a lot of people with different social baselines. Give them enough hot topics to debate, and you're sure to parse out some differences of opinion.
Yeah "unlocked" has always irked me a little bit, but I don't know why. I just feel like it's a weird thing to say
There are some people who are of the "Maple or Nothing" mentality with their kendamas. I get it, Maple is a great wood, but just because a kendama is a wood other than maple doesn't mean that that kendama is bad by default.
I don't really get the maple mentality. All the ash kens I have had are like...WAY BETTER! Maple is good...but Ash is like golden.
Maple's better for taps and instas since it's softer and more durable than the Chip-prone Ash wood. Though I do agree that ash is an overall better player than maple for me.
