As a newcomer to the kendama scene, I often find myself wondering, what trick should I work on next? is there a correct list to work off of? Should I just try to master the current KWC trick list? The Sweets list? The KUSA list? The LearnKendama list?

Obviously, some tricks are meant to be learned in parts (Around USA involves cup to spike and earth turns), but sometimes you can go straight to higher level tricks without learning "basics."

Is there a go-to list that you are working up? Do you make your own? Let me know!
(I hope this is a new thread, I couldn't find anything related when searching, and it's in the right forum! Let me know if not)

Hey, welcome! I think the KWC list is great. I know it's cliche but I might just watch some videos and if something looks cool, learn the parts! Once you have your basic cup play work on on lighthouses. Maybe some string and flow. After that try to work on a basic spacewalk. Once you have those decently everything opens up and you can combine them in all sorts of fun ways!

I would agree with this, and adding some spike stuff (swing spikes, e-turns, whirls), and also, for today's day and age, juggles.

Yeah I was implying spikes in cup play. I was avoiding saying jugs and taps because they can be a bit daunting, but those are good to start on early.

Originally, when I first started playing kendama, I was learning the Kendama USA tricks on this website. Once I had learned all of the beginner and most of the intermediate tricks, I looked into the Learn Kendama tricks by YoYo Tricks. I quickly learned that these tutorials may be a little too much, and occasionally not accurate with the trick names. Still, they had a lot more variety than Kendama USA had at the time. In 2017, Sweets kendamas released their trick videos, and those have been quite helpful too, but are definitely not for everyone. A while ago I had already learned all of KUSA's available tricks from their trick videos, and I just didn't like the style as much of Learn Kendama and Sweets. The new KWC tricks are very fun to try, but I have no intention of learning all of the tricks, because there are so many, and many of them are just insane.

***** all yellow links will direct you to what I am talking about, if you do not know already. Be sure to check them out! *****

Hoping to take a JKA test later this year so those are my main focus lately. For other tricks Learn Kendama and the Sweets series (new and old) are good.

continually working on the KWC lists as I get better at kendama. I've hit tricks from past lists only this year because I finally hit a level where it wouldn't be a LONGGG grind.

I first started out learning every trick on the old Sweets tutorials though, so I would say to go with those!

My practice sesh always starts with the JKA ladder. It’s a good warm-up routine for me. I’m also preparing for the JKA test this year so this makes sense for me. After going through the JKA tricks, I try out a trick or two from the KWC videos as well. : )
