So I know Mahogany Damas can take a while to break in but I was wondering if anyone had any advice to help speed up / improve the process, been dashing it at least twice a week since Feb and it's still smooth af lol =p Btw it feels like it's going to be a sweet dama one day so gonna keep up moshikami for days
Haven't played mahogany but any moisture in the tama should help make that natty grippy. The more sweat and hand oils you get into that thing will help it get honed
@SporkmasterDave We had a thread on Mahogany so went ahead and merged the two. _______ Depends on how it's finished. I've got a couple of Mahogany kendama (KROM and Sol) and, well sorry to be the bearer of not so great news but, they'll never be Keyaki, Red Elm or Ash. The finish, at least on the ones I have, is very furniture-like, polished and pretty slick. They are very tight grained and changed color very little, not much was absorbed I think, when I tried various wood finishers on them. Also check these: Tips to break in damas? KROM Deluxe Mahogany?
Thanks for merging Just gonna keep at it, figured the tight grain was why it was so hard to break in. But even it dosnt get to the same point as my other Damas for tack I'm still gonna love it for the sound and colours =D
No worries and I'm right there with you about the sound and colors. The KROM is a Viking so it's a big chunk of the stuff but it's surprisingly light. Let us know if you find any insights to get a bit more out of the grippiness.
