Hey everyone, Thanks for all of the feedback on the paid version of Dama Dice. I've decided to do a free version so people can try out the app before getting access to all of the advanced tricks and combo mode. You can get that here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dama-dice-kendama/id1384971400?mt=8 Dama Dice gives you a random Kendama trick try. It also includes links to videos so you can learn new tricks as you play. Let me know what you think. If this gets enough downloads, I'll strongly consider doing an Android version 688 x 272
@Carlos Habbenero I forgot to mention that the changes you suggested went live a few days ago. They're also in the free version
Cool! Haven't checked this out yet, but its nice to see a published app! Years ago we came up with a dama-dice game that we would play with actual dice-- anyone that has been around a while might remember the wooden dice with a Terra leaf logo as the 'one' side we used to give out in every online order. The dama dice game was the reason we had those dice made in the first place, it was pretty fun, and sometimes would force you to try some pretty weird tricks. We talked about creating an app for it, but never made any moves to do so. Kudos for getting it done!
Is there a printable version of the original terra dice anywhere? Edit: Just saw 'actual dice'. Whoops! In that case, you got that trick list anywhere?
Nope, I might be able to find our trick list written down in a notebook somewhere though. It worked like this: In one round, you would roll multiple times: - First roll: decides what grip your trick starts in - Second roll: decides the start of the trick (choose from the appropriate grip’s trick list) - Third roll: decides what sort of maneuver you perform when moving from the start of the trick, to the second part of the trick - fourth roll: decides ‘how many’ (related to the previous roll) - fifth roll: decides the end of the trick That might be confusing, here’s an example: First roll: tama grip Second roll: lighthouse Third roll: kenflip (in this case: lighthouse flip) Fourth roll: 1x (as in, single lighthouse flip) Fifth roll: lunar So in this case, the trick would be: lighthouse, flip to lunar Another example: First roll: ken grip Second roll: bird Third roll: orbit Fourth roll: 2x (as in, double orbit) Fifth roll: little bird So in this case, the trick would be: bird, double orbit to little bird. You need to make several lists: - one with all the grips listed - one with tricks (for each different grip) - one with ‘maneuvers’ (eg: kenflip, gunslinger, Tap, orbit, juggle, grip switch, etc. Get creative!) - one with the how many multiplier (0-3, maybe 4 or 5 if you’re gnarly) If you use two dice you get 12 options for each list. You can tailor the list so that more obscure tricks are 1,2,11,12, etc. Hope that makes sense
Wow! The combo mode I designed works in a similar way. I made it so each trick has a starting and ending grip, and the tricks flow into each other based on those characteristics. So something that starts in tama but ends in ken will be followed with a trick that starts in ken and so on. Theoretically, it could roll an infinite combo (might be a fun feature haha) That said, I'm fairly new to Kendama, so it would be really helpful to get your perspective on the grips I've chosen and the way I've modeled it.
