yeah, right now my sol clear is kinda slick, but I hope that's not because I poured water on it (Like Jake fischer did to his slaydawg in the sweets mic'd up video). It's probably in that phase though where it's less sticky, and the more I play it the stickier it will get.
I agree with a lot of people's liked stick preferences as I have seen many of them , yet I'd love to know the actual time line of who came out with the modern style stickies first since a lot of them are pretty similar . I know the KUSA super sticks pre- dated this new style coatings and others like Mugen paints and Sourmash have had their own recipes for coatings that offered a great mix of tack/slip break in offerings . Yet to think of the more moderns , who started first ??? maybe the AF from DWI has been more of the beginning of the new breed of stickies ? One that I found that I really ,really , did I say really ? liked was the Cobra sticky coating ( not sure if there was a tech name for it when it first arrived) . This came out a while back even before seeing anything from Sweets, Sol , Isr , Krom and others that followed to make their sticky impact . Its actually one of my favorite jammers and the paint holds up to all sorts of thrashing !! ( Kudos J-Trebs !) I also put the Active kendamas Steven Pro mod in the "slays" column , great sticky ratio , generous cups , and almost dead matched weights .ake this an all around great piece! !! I know there's some differences and maybe even with the batches . But many achieve the same desire to add tack to land our tricks .Most have added to their product lines witch is great for options and great for us all who like nattys, and like to play Sticky ! Oh crap..... sorry so long guys !
Ozora Premium gen 1s started 9/2013 and gen 2s 6/2014 not sure where that would put them in the clear-glossy-stick paint history but I kind of think of them, particularly the gen 2, as somewhere near the beginning since the Slaydawg came out 10/2016 and Prime 2/2017-ish. What was before the Slaydawg in this chronology?
For sure Tribute Super Sticky was before the Slaydawg. I wanna say Sticky AF from DWI too but am not entirely certain. Cant give years though
Pro Clear should absolutely be on this list. It’s different than the others because of its slip out of the box but woo once broken in, the stick is almost perfect. And it’s durable as hell too. Having played a majority of sticky paints, Sticky AF, Prime Sticky Clear and LOL clear would be top 3 outside of the Pro Clear for me. I think the differences come down to availability (dama selection), durability, and playability (feel) with various woods. I’ve had kens slay with LOL clear but are noticeably slicker on Prime Sticky Clear and vice versa. It depends on the players preferences of how much slip they like and what feels best in hand. Side note... adding Mugen Musou paint as an option is unfair in the sense that most players either won’t bite the bullet to not only pay for one but jam it long and hard enough to really get a sense of the paint. Which IMO, the paint is awesome... squeaks like a mouse lol.
Lol I’m with you dawg but I think this conversation is more about the best “standard sticky clear” and pro-clear only comes out every so often via prime customs- not on sweets’ introductory line. Also; While broken in pro-clear does become sticky, I would by no means call it a sticky clear. I’d call it a gloss coat or something else if someone else has a better name for it.
Good point about pro clear not being a “standard sticky clear”. But I don’t know about it being classified as a gloss coat.. when I refer to gloss coats I’m thinking TK-16 master or any of the barebones tributes from KUSA etc. Those never get sticky because they aren’t meant too lol. Maybe pro clear is in a class of its own.
Pro-clear definitely is in a class if it’s own, and it’s because of how the clear is bonded to the paint itself. Since the paint they are bonding it too at sweets is mixed and applied by people who have been doing it for years, it creates a better product than a machine mass producing a slick dama that’s not unique in anyway. Pro-clear definitely is in its own price range. And again, Rubber coats, are “sticky” to some, it’s all about how we describe it, but we can’t go calling everything that’s sticky ‘sticky’, or we are all gonna get lost real fast.
I agree.. there needs to be some clarification from the painters on what these should be classified as in the future. Whether it’s called Cushion clear, Silk, Rubber, Matte... whatever the consensus, should be that it has certain characteristics that are NOT “sticky clear” and vice versa.
If Ozora slick paint = beer Sweets pro-clear= champagne If Hon rui rubber paint = Heinz Sweets cushion =
