So there have been a number of size variations in the last few years and I'm kind of curious what people are playing these days. I'm not talking about the XXXL you play once in a blue moon but what size do you gravitate to on a daily basis. I don't have samples of all the various sizes so it's hard for me to be certain of the gradation of the poll list. If you have some comparison model suggestions (like what else is in the Slaydawg class or Prefect class) or if I need an extra entry let me know and I'll tweak it. L to R: JKA, F3, Prime, Pop, Slaydawg, Prefect
You might need a category between standard and next gen. Ken's with ever so slightly larger cups like the Kaizen 2.0s, GT-E1's, and DA O etc.
I believe the slaydawg is a bit taller and has a slightly larger tama as well as a bit beefier shape all around. I honestly jam a shape from every category here weekly. The only common ones I can think of that isn't listed here would be the craft Plus damas and the Krom 1%. I will admit though that it's rare for me to pick up a JKA dama nowadays. I have a fresh premium Ozora I'm always thinking about playing but I never get around to it.
I play the Sol Shape probably most often but I voted for slaydawg etc shape because I feel like the Sol Shape is more comparable to the Slaydawg than to a Pop or Prime..
Updated the first post with a family photo. Those are included in the first group since the variations are generally minor. The F3 for example was only 1-2mm larger in the cups with all other dimensions virtually the same. I'm kind of going by memory since my only Sol shape is in Manila and I've not seen it in 6 months. If anyone has a pic of it compared to a Prime and/or Pop and it's considerably different I can put it in a different group. Unfortunately the forum software defaults to "Multiple votes allowed" so people are able to vote more than one choice.
I went for JKA/Standard. More specifically that Kaizen 2.0, GT DA/O size. On a side note I have a SuLab Sync 2% bigger, which I would say is somewhere between Kaizen 2.0 and Prime/Pop size and is most definitely slept on!
I’ve always been a fan of the Kusa Kaizens, especially the pro mods. My friends have tried to get me to cop a dama with bigger cups but I held out until the new teej mod dropped haha. The og make waves dama is my favorite by far so I’m stoked to get the new one in the mail today! The day before it came out I literally almost bought a fresh og teej mod. Perfect timing!
Slaydawg is the same height as a JKA ken, but the sarado is wider, and fatter. More noticeably, the tama is larger than a JKA design, so most people group it into 'oversized' because of that. But really, its just a sort of mismatch of old and new dimensions. Source: I currently have a slaydawg in one hand, and digital callipers in the other hand. (not sure about the 8yr Bday updated slaydawg shape though).
Thanks. I just got a 7 yr Bday slaydawg today and noticed the tama is getting stuck halfway up the spike. I’m a beginner so I’m mostly doing basic stuff like swing spikes, earth turns and stuff like that. The tama is getting on the spike but when jt comes in at an angle and isn’t moving fast, it gets stuck on the spike and i have to wiggle it to get it fully on the spike. Is this a common issue with the slaydawg shape? Do i just need to “break it in”?
@ShovelLovell @KeeganS My Sol shape is in Manila so I'll have to rely on you guys for sizing. I'll go ahead and swap categories and anyone that who voted for the current category Sol Shape (NG) can change their vote if so inclined.
I just got my OG Tj mod a wk or so ago and then his new one dropped! I haven’t played it yet as I decided to go with my LyndonWhalen Promod from Sol all this month.. actually have a few new damas I got this month that just got put up till a later time when I want to play a Freshie.. prob will eventually cop TJs new mod but HAD to get Dave’s new mod since it’s a bigger shape and his OG has never been in stock since I started playing back in April Yea just needs to be broken in some. When the Tama doesn’t go all the way on and can wiggle around like a bobble head, people call it a trick called Alien Head. They’re actually kind of difficult for some people. I just got a Birch Stodd Mod from GT and haven’t really played it besides some swing spikes and earthturns and the spike is sharp and will do the same as your 7yr. Take advantage and film some alien head stuff lol jumping sticks, earth turns, try and do some combos like Around Europe(little cup-spike-big cup-spike-base cup spike) with Alien heads!
Yeah I managed to get an OG Matteo mod last year from KUSAs Amazon, it’s great for string tricks and ufo variations. But I prefer other pro mods. And the new teej mod SLAYS! It’s insane, absolutely love it. Once it’s broken in it’ll be even crazier I’m sure.
This happens to me a lot when the bead or bearing gets caught between the spike and tama. If you're worried, you can tie a small knot in the string about 1 inch above the tama - should sort it out. I hate knots tho so you find other ways around it like keeping a finger over the string hole etc.
