For sure. I for one like many others didnt really catch on with his first mod’s tama because of it not matching my own style of play (actually did manage to get a decent weighted one with the 2.0 drop though). If it were a translucent sticky clear at least, that would be a different story. But again like we’ve stated, it’s Dave’s pro mod not ours. Btw, if anyone wants to do a commission for their own custom ‘pro mod’ tama Kendama MPLS and Sourmash are great places to go to. KMPLS will have tamas that will better fit the slightly larger sized kens and Sourmash has extreme attention to detail that will bring to life nearly any design.
Kendama burnout. Take a break every once in a while, guys! Don't look at kendama as some obligation where you have to post a banger regularly, lest you become jaded with the game.
That‘s a very good advice my sir... everybody only speaks about the hours and hours of grinding everyday... but a break can bring you sooo much new ideas.
Same here. By the end of february, I was beginning to hate kendama because of #28trickslater. Had to detox and stop the film grind for a bit. Spent time with my other hobbies, as well as only playing "casual" kendama for a couple of weeks.
I think kendama players can learn a lot from jugglers about under the leg/contortion tricks!! Using them in freestyle lines always makes everything steezier imo and they’re an example of how your body can play different roles in the game, providing infinite more possibilities. I know contortion/behind the back is not for everyone but putting your hand under your leg can add style, difficulty and creativity to a lot of tricks that would otherwise be common/boring in my opinion. I hope one day “body tricks” are commonly integrated into kendama cause you can do so much with it, it doesn’t even have to be contortion or under the leg. One dope example is Bonz when he kicks damas or when he hit that bottom cup with his elbow before airplaining it on his last Youtube edit.
True! For me, though, it can depend a lot on one's physiology and physical fitness. I do like integrating a lot of "body tricks" in my flow (Under the leg spacewalks are money!!!), but I can't, for example, do a "leg roll" because I have really big thighs. Still, I'd love it if kendama players can find creative ways to play freestyle kendama with "body tricks."
Same problem in the Glass Community with DHgate.com.. people copying others ideas and concepts and having kids in factories in China produce them for little to nothing.. quality is never the same or as good. Now people are buying empty vape carts off DHgate and professional foil packs that say they’re lab certified then people fill them up with whatever they want, cheap oil and non-cannabis derived terps to make it smell or taste like a good product. It’s sad & dishonest
I’ve been guilty of this before, but multiple straight juggles in a trick that isn’t like a 1-2-3 juggle trick. So like, triple tap, juggle late triple kefip, then two juggles to spike. It just looks really ugly imo
Rage and temper tantrums have been mentioned here, but I just found a new account on IG that highlights this behavior. @kendama_cringe They pointed out that only Americans throw these fits of rage, but I’m not sure if it’s unique to the US. Granted we have more whiny spoiled brats than most countries. Just talk to any young millennial or post millennial (I’m a millennial too, so calm down kids). Anyone seen any other punk kid behavior with kendamas outside of the US? I watched Wyatt Bray lose his sh*t at BATB 2019. He was stomping around yelling about the judges and how he should have beat Liam Router. He was yelling about it inside and outside of the venue. Bryan Scagline was trying to calm him down. I totally thought he was about to lose his sponsorship. I guess he’s lucky he keeps winning, or he’d have to kiss it goodbye. When I was a kid, skaters were thought of as public nuisances, because a few bad apples screwed it up for everyone. I don’t want this to happen to Kendama. It’s about positivity, respect, and discipline. Improve yourself everyday by putting down the rage. Especially if you’re a pro or hoping to be one someday, act like it. **Update** Apparently, judging by a few of their posts, @kendama_cringe can be a bit opinionated, however some of the humor is worth giving them a looksee.
Wait...that actually happened? It's pretty hard to believe that he would be like that considering what he seemed like in his 2014 Tribe announcement and KWC video reflection on his victory in 2015, but I think that his competitive nature might be a little out of control. I'm just surprised that I haven't found any footage of that yet to see his meltdown for myself.
On top of the rage/tantrum from not lacing, there’s also the cringeworthy victory slam and sometimes complete destruction after actually landing a trick. I’m not even a fan of seeing people grind something out and then just dead drop a dama onto the pavement. On a side note, I also came from a skateboarding background and never understood or enjoyed seeing people focus or destroy they’re boards. I’ve got so many damas and still never even consider intentionally dropping them let alone slamming any of them. I agree that Kendama is a discipline and should be reflected in the behavior surrounding it but of course I support people’s freedom to do whatever they want as well. That said, I also believe that there’s nothing positive in adding a rage scene to the beginning or ending of a sick clip. As a Kendama adjacent example, in woodworking you wouldn’t turn a beautiful piece of wood and then kick the lathe over. There’s a million more examples in life but the point is respect the tools of your craft.
I didn’t see his complete meltdown on stage or off, I was there too, but I don’t think it’s hard to believe that it happened either. I could see something like that happening, I’ve seen his IG and he does get quite upset if he’s not lacing it seems.. I’m pretty sure there was only Damas to win at BaTB too right?? Like no money on the line.. why get so upset?? I’m new to Dama still at 14months in so maybe winning so many comps helps you get s better pre-rank for KWC..?? Anyone know if that’s a thing or not? I too am on the cusp of being a millennial(which is hard to believe as I’m 37.. but technically ‘81-‘96 is that age group)and have never gotten so upset that I throw down on concrete or hard pavement.. I don’t want anything to break on purpose. Never in life unless I start a wrecking business lol. I get the stress of filming and working hard on something and just not getting it, but put it down, walk away, come back fresh to same Dama and try again. Don’t break and just have to pull out a spare because you’re sponsored and Can just do that.. lots of young kids will see it and then their parents who probably bought it for them will be like “what happened to that good one I just got you a little while ago.. how’d this happen?”
As far as the BaTB and millennial stuff, I think you confused my comment with @xplodit original comment on that and this topic. I do agree completely though to the rest of your comment but I’m also not sure as far as ranking etc. having any influence on KWC placement.
To be clear, the meltdown happened off the stage. He didn’t directly yell at the judges, he was just yelling about the judges giving Liam more points than him for doing the same tricks. He most definitely threw a tantrum after walking off the stage which continued outside. Bryan had to chill him out. ***Not trying to spread rumors or make this look worse than it appeared. I wish I had a video. I’m not trying to bash Wyatt personally either. I’ve only had positive interactions with him, but he totally lost it that day.
Hahaha! I was just thinking how funny filming an “unnecessary rage” video compilation would be! Ex. Finish carving a turkey then rage throw the knife at the ground and flip the table. You beat a video game then destroy the controller and rip down the tv. Etc. The lathe one is great!!!!
Me: finishes reading a good book and slams it on the ground My librarian: W-Who is this kid? Not gonna lie, that would be a pretty funny compilation!
