What are some tricks you learned and perfected almost immediately? I'm asking because kendama players learn differently, and some tricks can come super easy to some while taking considerable effort on the part of others. For me, Handroll was pretty much an extension of the stickwork I do in Eskrima, so I learned it like nothing.
one turn lighthouse, definitely felt more natural than a pull up. i also oddly found it easier than a one turn airplane lol
Ditto on one turn lighthouse! Pull up LH is still really awkward for me even until now, so I almost never do it.
I know this is a bit more on the intermediate/advanced side, but after I landed my first inward lunar they were super UNLOCKED. I learned regular lunar first which took forever, but now it’s harder for me do regular lunars in combos, multiple flips, or lunar rovers that don’t start in inward. No clue why this is. The balance of lunar in the inward orientation just feels so right.
Ghost lighthouse stuff. Immediately found them easier then the normal toss to lighthouse, and now I do them all the time.
Border Balance. Unlocked pretty quick in comparison to some homies of mine who still can't do them but idk. If the spikes a bit flat I can do a border balance on it
@kerndama welcome to the forums. FYI Here's more info on Boarder's Balance you might find interesting.
I still find nightingale waaaay easier than bird. Only took me about 5 minutes to hit my first one when I had to grind bird for weeks.
Swing nightingale for me is much easier than swing bird. You don't have to worry about getting the tama over the spike.
Nothing lol! Everything I land takes me time and even more to repeat ha ha. I think I have only landed handle stall first try but then dropped it and haven’t landed it again. I’m ok with that though. It can be very frustrating but also very satisfying when I do land something. I’m just not a natural, but I still enjoy it.
Yeah I suppose that actually does make more mechanical sense. Plus the spike acts like a backboard to stop the rotation of the tama. It's honestly a way less precise trick.
Awesome! I'm absolutely hopeless with inward lunars. I can only ever get pull up inward lunar; anything else is beyond my level. :/
Anyone here pick up scooping goldfish easily lol? I imagine it's one that takes a bit of work and imagination.
Actually yes, kind of. . . at least big cup scooping. I watched a video of Shimadera-san a lot before really trying it. Saw a guy the other day doing base cup scooping nearly as easily as I can do big cup.
I honestly feel like I learned DownSpike a little quicker than I expected.. once I got a pill and started practicing doing them with that it helped unlock in the Kendama game too! Although I pull up with the tama rotating back towards me as opposed to a quick flick out to get the tama to rotate outwards like it seems most people do
Pills are awesome learning tools for spike tricks! Good way to teach beginners how to earth turn, and downspikes feel more natural with them.
