Ive had this GT2 since March 2022. Its been played a couple times, the spike has 2 layers of glue on it. And the spike is going flat. What can I do to restore the spike or is my GT2 screwed? It was pricey after all..
Some folks actually like a flat tip so they can do tricks like Boarder's Balance and Tightrope. However if you prefer a pointy tip then you can just use some sandpaper and reshape the tip. Take off as little material as possible so you don't shorten your spike too quickly. The are other options but they're a bit more complicated. One is to find some good 2-part epoxy, that dries hard like plastic, and put that on the tip and hang it upside down to dry. If you do it carefully and perhaps using a couple of layers you can get a drop-like tip. The other way you'll need some tools and skills. Basically you cut the tip flat and build your own replaceable tip like on a Mugen Musou.
That, plus I'll add two ideas: it can be done not only by hanging it upside down, but also by using tape to create a hollow cylinder that extends beyond the spike, which can then be filled with the opoxy. Then it needs to be sanded down and to shape. additionally, you can put a little metal rod with a thread on it into the wood, which helps connect the epoxy and the wood. (Just about a centimeter long.)
