I just bought a begleri online a few days ago and I'm pretty stoked for that to come. I'm also looking into getting a yoyo and maybe some monkeys knuckles.
All in all though I think my past hobbies actually hinder my abilities at kendama. I destroyed my right ankle and both knees skating years ago so I can only play kendama for a little bit at a time. I then reinjured my ankle last year and play a lot of kendama in a cam boot. This actually really messed up my right hip so when I play kendama my back starts killing me after a while. I'm limiting my dama playing and doing physical therapy to get back to normal.

I've played violin for 3 years so violin has helped with reaction time

I've been throwing things in the air since I can remember. If I'm carrying something, I'm most likely throwing it in the air whenever I can. Spinning it around or flipping it somehow.

Spikeball is fun and improves hand eye coordination and reaction time.

Crossfit for the squats. Kendama requires so many squats haha :)

Think I'm just gonna be a sage to begin with. And as per the begleri I got a TGP I think.

I got a copper one because it looked nicer than the cord ones but it wasn't too expensive.

Definitely check the /r/throwers subreddit for a ton of beginner recommendations. The community is really nice and will answer any question you have

Depending on your budget, the Recess First Base, MagicYoyo Skyva, Speedaholic. I'd highly recommend the First Base, as it comes with two bearings. One responsive and the other unresponsive. This will help when you start learning unresponsive tricks

Some good places to buy are yoyobestbuy, yoyoexpert, and yotricks.

yoyo for sure, but the learning curve on yoyo is pretty gnarly. you are basically untying knots for 6 months haha

Basketball helps me with kendama and helps me with basketball as well. Hand eye coordination, endurance, patience, and balance is worked on with both.

Well... I speed type. I'm not the fastest (80 WPM), but it helps me write these comments quicker. My focus level is also higher when I type for speed.
