Check out the link from Gloken! (Usage of Google Translate highly recommended) http://www.gloken.net/jp/blog/201702061701/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So, if any of you haven't read the link yet, the Japan Anniversary Association has awarded May 14th as Kendama Day. This is in line with historical records that show the original prototype of kendama, nichi getsu boru (lit. Sun and Moon Ball) was registered on the 14th of May, 1919. This also means that in two year's time, we will have the 100th anniversary of the toy we know and love. Huge shout out to the awesome folks at Gloken for making this happen. I cannot stress enough on how much these guys and gals have done for kendama. It's possible that if not for them, we would not have a platform to meet, socialize and test the skills of all kendama players around the globe - Kendama World Cup. Bonus kendama fact : The kendama shape that we have come to know and love today has derived from the design of Mr. Egi Hama. This design (with a really small, small cup) has been applied for a patent on the 1st of October, 1971, and later registered 17 years after the date, on the 14th of May, 1988 (69 years from the date of conception, hehe). Dama on, and May the 14th be with you.
I've seen some very suspect '___ days' lately, but dama day seems legit... and the date has meaning, which is nice! May 14 is a Sunday this year, fyi. I'm gonna go ahead and say there will most likely be a jam in the Terra shop on this day! Seems appropriate. Example of a suspect '____ day': "National Neighbourhood Toy-store Day'. wtf? I saw this in the context of being asked about hosting a jam session at a local shop on that day, all I could think was... 'who... cares? this just seems like something a marketing person came up with'.
