I just wanna know other people's opinions. I hate ladybug tricks, where you hold the tama on the spike with one finger. What about you?
People who twist the ken, instead or their wrist when going from big cup to small cup, or vice versa. People who adjust the string with their hands mid-trick, and call it "clean". People who land a stilt trick, and do not have the courtesy to hold before spiking. Generally, this should be renamed to "Kendama Pet Peeves" hahahha
I don't have any pet peeves about players and their tricks, mostly cause I'm a noob and I can't hardly do anything crazy. Only pet peeve for me is when I'm showing kendama to someone and I advise them to use their knees, and then they swing the tama around like a flail. "Is this how you do it?" "Aaaaaaand you're done" *snatches kendama back*
I know what you're saying! I grinded out a stiltflip on a cifftop with uncomfortable, uneven footing for at least an hour. It took foreeeever and I was so stoked to land it (maybe the second stilt flip of my life) that i went to in too quickly. When I looked back at the clip to edit it later that day I was so disappointed, it looked like I didn't control it at all. If you're playing by yourself, you know if you really controlled it or not, so whatever, but it looks really bad on video. You should definitely hold it. I still ended up uploading mine to insta but mentioned something about it in the caption
I'm not a fan of yo-yo string type tricks like "fun house" etc. Not that I mind people doing them. I just don't do them.
When new players, especially kids, start playing and go straight for the high level tricks without bothering to get the basics down. Yeah, there are some amazing kid slayers out there, but for me I think learning the basics like how to moshikame first and getting that solid foundation to work from is better than going straight to 8 tap to 10 juggle penguin spike. It's like trying to jump from the high dive without learning to swim first.
This. Can't take anything away from the skill required to do six taps, juggle to spike...but when you realize some of these kids struggle on the "around the" tricks, it's kind of a buzzkill.
Yes, very much so! I'm beyond impressed by people who can do super high level tricks, but when they can do 7 or 8 tap, and multi juggle, but they can't even do around the world or around USA...-_-
@Jenny Cho @P0WAH0USE! it's definitely a playstyle difference. I remember @Haley Bishoff talking about it on ep. 2 (i think) of Click Clack Radio from when she first met @Nic Stodd and talking about the difference in their skill level. But yeah, it is very disappointing seeing all these players (especially kids) who can do insane freestyle-esque tricks but barely any of the 'intermediate' or 'advanced' tricks like from KUSA and Sweets's YT tutorials
Yeah it was. I think Damon means when people go to house as a safety/cop out. Like don't do a border flip and then go to lighthouse, just go straight in. If you managed to flip it back onto the spike, I think you can manage to flip it into the hole
I hate this too. I have a friend who started playing recently and he just jumped to juggling when he couldn't consistently do any cup to spike. I told him this but he didn't listen. He listened eventually and now he's pretty good at juggling and cups to spike. Also all these new players who go for all the advanced tricks when they barely start playing makes me so jealous because they're so good at it and I started playing 2 years ago when people didn't even think 5 tap or juggle trip late kenflip was possible.
