image.jpg What is the community drinking out there? I sent Downspike some coffee cash with my SASE to help with the coffee fix for the day, and cappuccino was the answer.

I'm lucky enough to have an espresso machine at home and play around with all sorts of different whacky ideas to get me jacked to two clicks before the jitters. Americano with three shots and some coconut oil and a touch of vanilla almond milk has been my most current heart warmer.

I want you to share anything coffee related here (recipes, roast temps, dosages, etc).

Thanks for starting this thread and good to see other coffee connoiseurs, here it goes... (photo attached of my setup)

    my gear includes:
    - Rocket Cellini Premium PID (chris temp mod, cafelat silicone gasket, vst baskets)
    - baratza vario-w (i use this for drip/pourover)
    - baratza sette 270w (use this for espresso)
    - hario v60 pourover
    - kalita wave pourover
    - hario WDW6 cold brew tower
    - bonavita kettle
    - couple bialetti moka pots (hardly use)
    - aeropress (only use when i travel)
    - behmor 1600+ coffee roaster
    - acaia lunar scale for espresso
    - hario scale for pourover

my usual routine is 2 espressos in the wee morning, followed by 1 or 2 pourovers before noon. The lady enjoys her lattes, which helps me with honing my latte art skills. Ill make a blackeye or redeye every now n then.

I roast about 2-3lb of coffee a week. Just finished a batch of ethiopian yirgacheffe, now need to finish roasting the last of my alto san francisco (tough roast as it requires all the heat i can throw at it without setting the behmor into emergency cool mode)

i drink my espresso 18g in 36g out and try to stay at 25s
    345g on pour over

    Yooo this is awesome!
I'll have to go home and snap some of my setups!
    Two current setups:

    Travel:
    • Aeropress, with standard paper filter or KoHi Labs metal filter
    • Porlex JP-30 grinder (picked this up last year during KWC, fits oh-so-perfectly into the AP)
    • Thermoworks RT301WA thermometer
    • AWS Blade scale (1000g x 0.1)
    • Keep Cup Cork glass coffee cup
    • Bamboo chopstick as stirrer
    • Crumpler Artisanal Loaf to keep all the goods
Home (this was my very first setup):
    • Bodum Kenya 3-cup french press
    • Hario Mini Mill Slim grinder
    • Thermometer and 200g x 0.01 scale i bought locally

    Future investments:
    • Hario V60 ceramic
    • Chemex
    • Acaia Lunar
    • Baratza Virtuoso

Do you have another counter dedicated to Japanese knives? ;)
Maybe I can interest you in mailing me a small batch? Do you have an online ordering system?

other side of counter is wine haha!

Yeah, I can send you a batch to try. I wont send the san francisco because im still dialing in my roast profile but I can send you some of the yirg or moka kadir, what type of roast do you prefer? Oh, both of which are my goto for both pour over and espresso. I personally do light roasts and I never goto second crack, I stay about 20 seconds after first crack. Youll get more floral/fruity notes...

Super new to coffe and all of its intricacies, so I don't have quite the array of equipment that all you have. Just been using a French Press and plan on getting an Aeropress soon.

I've been drinking the same roast for a while now Café Mam's Italian Roast and want to try out some new stuff. Have any recommendations on something new I could try out? I don't have any preferences yet to which roasts I prefer more, so any ideas are welcome.

I suggest trying out subscription based coffee deliveries!
Blue Bottle Coffee and Craft Coffee are two places you can start with.

Alternatively, members here may be into coffee roasting!
They'd probably be happy to send you a pack!

@Yourdy is bigtime into his bean.

This isnt my setup but I'm jealous (It's at my parents house and I'll pull when I'm over there)

    For music, puccini
    for art, bernini
    for espresso, pasquini:

Personally I like Black Cat beans (the ones intelligensia uses in LA), La Colombe, and 49th parallel.

One of my favorite things to do is hike or bike up to a mountain top around here in Chattanooga for the sole purpose of making some coffee and playing kendama. This was the best pic I could find with coffee, kendama, and mountains. We call it mountain top coffee shop.
    Set up:
    Primus Backpacking stove
    AeroPress
    Porlex Mini Grinder
    Yeti Lowball Rambler
Most of the time Velo Coffee Roasters Coffee

I would recommend trying Philz Coffee Tesora; one of my favorites for sure. http://www.philzcoffee.com/our-blends/coffee

If you have only been doing Italian roasts, it's hard to taste the flavor notes in the bean. Drop it down to a medium roast, and you'll be able to get some nuttier flavors. It's a long journey and so is kendama! They go hand in hand.

exactly, and if you want more caffine, go with a light roast. The darker the roast, the less caffine.

Great question for me, but better question for the baristas at your local shop!!! Look for a cafe that roasts their own. You will not be disappointed! I was a barista for a long time, if anyone ever came to me with coffe questions, I would sample as much as I could to them. Tell the barista you have only really expericed Italian roasted beans in a French press and you want to explore different roasts and different brews. Barista should be able to guide you through to your first few tastings. Good luck!!
