I was scrolling through my feeds of tech articles as I normally do on any afternoon at work, I spot the headline "This is a Kendama! This is a IoT! Uh! Dendama." and I had to do a double-take because i was not expecting to see a the word "kendama" in a tech news outlet. LOLOL I never really considered of this sort of dama as IoT (internet of things) but eh... whatever. I mean unless it somehow connects to the internet i just see it as a peripheral of some sorts.

I've seen the video they attached at the bottom before. It's an interesting concept to have sensors in the cups/spikes and then have those connect to your device and play. I do think it really leans towards that Japanese style of play (see the JKA thread) where it's not much freestyle but more focused on accuracy/consistency/mastery of tricks (which I hella respect) but I have reservations that it'll be fragile and unable to take the beatings that come with normal dama wear/usage. I don't really see this as something that would catch on as a game, but I do see potential for using the sensors in a way to gather data about the physics that go behind kendama play (imma data/analytics nerd HAHA)

What are yalls thoughts on a electronic kendama?

All in all, I'm just happy to see kendama in general getting exposure ^_^

Like I said on FKC. Im excited about anything new with kendama. Even if it's something I know I wouldn't personaly buy. I feel like kendama is on this verge of niche hobby/lifestyle and about to blow up to be the next, I dunno. Furby.

That said, I will definatly throw some dollars into the Kickstarter. I honestly think they could've used more current mobile tech though. They could achieve the same results with only a slightly higher cost by using NFC tags alongside the app. Or some other tag like tech. Im pretty nooby abiut that kind of tech

As long as it brings new people to kendama, I'm all for it.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I'm sure it appeals to some subset.
would be cool to see if it's accurate enough to help with honing difficult tricks

Whoa, this is pretty awesome. I've thought about trying to wire up a kendama to make noises before, but this looks like some next level stuff haha!

lol! Buncha loner kendama nerds out there!

Actually though, this is really neat. I can't help but wonder if it will be novelty, or become a product I go back to often. Excited to see one for myself!

How does kickstarter work if the goal isn't met? Needing to raise $120k up front via a kendama that costs over $100 USD seems like it'll be tough goal to meet.
Don't get me wrong though, I really want to see this become a reality!

Yeah, I really don't see this being successful. Too many factors have to come together perfectly. Also, I think our money would be better spent supporting the core dama companies and reinvesting in the community.

Whatever though..if it ends up being successful that cool too.

How's the durability on those things? Also, do they sling?

I like the idea behind it because as a middle schooler, I loved hopping on Xbox live after school and playing CoD with my friends. I spent countless hours in team deathmatch, domination, SnD, and private matches. The whole "playing against people online" thing has always been fun to me. I think the concept and purpose behind it is there, so I am curious to see how this turns out!

For real, if this works well, it would be pretty amazing. Imagine the pinnacle of this product's evolution: a kendama that tracks your play perfectly and is able to communicate that to someone in another part of the world, so you could play 'together' easily. I'm gonna make a thread on this, its an interesting idea.

Merged this thread with a similar thread but left another related thread by one of the people behind the idea separate. You can find it here: I am Tyson Batino from Dendama, AMA
