does anyone know if there is/are any other kens that are similar to the craft slim shape kens? I keep going back to it, again and again. I am so much more consistent with it, especially with around tricks.
A TK16 or a Bahama Kendama bamboo has similarities. The Bahama is actually thinner slightly under the sarado than the Slim but the TK16 is similar in profile near the slipstop. (The BK bamboo may be the shape of all their standard size kendama but I only have this one here)
If you can find some of the older KUSA pro models (spirit animal, or original series, but not the premiere pro model series), they have a fairly skinny shape as well, like a slightly thinned out TK16. The padauk proto KUSA damas were also this shape, and some of the older KUSA classics. That older pro mod shape was actually one of my inspirations when working on the slim design. I wanted to get that elegant feel, mixed with a more modern design, and sleeker slip stop area.
Not produced anymore, but the Kenco Shenzu has a very slim shape and slings for days. I may have a few extra fresh kens or even maybe a few full Shenzu damas I'd be willing to trade or sell. Either way, try and get your hands on one to try. I think you will enjoy the shape.
@htimSxelA thank you for your input on that design. I truly believe that it surpasses the current standard model. That slim shape is not just elegant, but so much more fun to play for me. So thanks again to you and anyone else that helped design that dama.
True, though worth mentioning that the shenzu went through a couple of shape changes. The older ones were REALLY fat. So if you find one used, be sure to verify the shape with the seller @Almostgets glad to hear you like it! We spent a few days tweaking CAD files and making prototypes to get it right. Very happy with how it turned out!
Interesting! Now that I think about it, I may have an old Glow Shenzu from years ago with a thicker ken. Luckily I grabbed most of my Shenzu's later on, and i believe they are all slim.
I have a Bahama kendama. The Tama is super eggy but the slim Ken means slingers for days. It's not even close in quality to a slaydog or even a tribute but for getting people hyped or practicing slingers it works.
There is a similar thread I posted in recently with some more info on slim kens. https://www.downspike.com/threads/slim-shape-ken.1641/
There is the sweets prime which i find is very slim through pictures. And theres also fishbone kendama and ozora, which really are sling monsters
I'll second that, Sweets Prime is definitely a slimmer ken. As long as you're looking for extra large cups as well, go with that. Also, think I might recommend TK-16 as being slightly thinner than Ozora.
Slim is life. The Original Kendama USA premiere line kens were super thin as well. It was an inspiration for the current Craft Slim shape. If you can get your hands on any of these OG damas go for it!
