I was wondering if you could do something with broken damas I don't wanna throw any away...so any ideas?
I am eventually gonna get a shelf and put all of my "retired" damas on it. Ones I've killed or just are playable anymore. I have yet to kill a dama. I am close to killing a white sunrise but not quite there yet. It would also be cool to put speical damas on that shelf aswell. Maybe if I ever won a competition somewhere or something. I would put that dama on the shelf or something.
If I've chipped them really bad, I don't use them, but if the spike's just dull, I use a manual pencil sharpener and sand it afterwards, and with all the very playable and useable damas, I just sand down the parts that are starting to dull or chip.
I broke a sarado sometime back, i promptly retired it back to its box, and paired the ken with something else!
The ones that are too broken/shitty to play sit in my trunk in case I ever need em for a bonfire or something lol
Depends on how broken I guess, for ones without any sentimental attachments they become spare parts. For ones I want to hang on to I find a plastic display box like the one inside a KUSA package and tidy it up and put a note about whatever the special significance is so people looking at them will know. We've got a couple like that in our shop; first kendama and first JKA kendama that were ever played there. You could also use them in kendama stacking as long as they were still mostly intact.
This also depends on how broken a kendama is, but if you ever get interested in customizing your own kendamas, using spares, throwaways, or broken/busted setups can help you figure out what and how to do it. When i first started wood burning, i experimented on a spare zebrano Lion Head tama to see how to properly use my wood burning tool. Or you can take paint to it and see how it reacts to the wood, what colors and designs you like/dislike. Another use could be learning how to modify them; adding a swoop or drilling a base cup hole, slimming down the ken, etc.
