Recently I've been hitting a wall with some tricks where I can do them... but it might take fifty tries. I've also been mostly getting in my practice time in my apartment at night after I get off work. This weekend I was jamming inside for a couple hours not having much luck at lacing anything. The rain let up and I took the dama outside for my first outdoor sesh in a while. I was absolutely blown away by the difference. Its like all of a sudden I could see everything lining up. My consistency went way up. I even started getting stilts dialed in! (This trick has been the biggest pain in the ass for me) Now I'm hitting it maybe 1 in 10 stilts flip maybe close...? Anyway what I'm getting at is that I feel like I play way better outside (during the day). I think it has a lot to do with the amount of light/quality of light. Do you feel the same way or Disagree? Also, does anyone have an indoor jam spot that comes close lighting wise to outdoors? I see a lot of edits with night footage under streetlamps, in darkish apartments, etc. Does this give extra street cred/style points?
To me it's the air, it's not stuffy outside especially in flora filled areas! I play back in this area we have in our house that is not that big, but it's surrounded by bushes and trees overhead It's just peaceful, all the sounds too and the wind, it's more of "zen" area outside. Inside is so restricting and boring outside is an area for inspiration!
It could also have something to do with the amount of light your getting. The sun is a pretty big lightbulb.
Nothing beats natural outdoor lighting for getting tricks done! I find artificial light (bulbs, etc) to be a bit awkward, and tires your eyes out a little faster. Golden hour is the best time to get stuff done, and to shoot video!
I've been wondering, does anybody get super honed standing in a certain spot grinding a trick, then when you move spots you can't do it, even if the light is still good, just different?
Lighting really effects me for sure. There's only certain places I play indoors because the lighting is best. If it's dim at all I can't Spike anything. Natural sunlight is great if it's avail
It's liberating being outside on the green landscape. The air is fresh and the breeze is cool. It's relaxing and keeps you from frustration, when really all your doing is having fun with a wooden toy. Indoors, I play by the windows but I don't face them because I get blinded and loose the tama hole when spiking. Sometime I layout a yoga mat for the extra cushion under my feet.
I voted for indoors, but something about being on the beach makes me feel awesome when the camera is on. I think my best clips have all been near the ocean. Rip me a MN player.
Last night I found a real good spot for tricks. It wasn’t under a street lamp, instead it was right next to a Walgreens Ad Window.. they have these 3 fake big windows they use to just put huge ads of people shopping in Walgreens in. But the lighting the use for them was great! It was on my left side and I felt like I could see tricks easier last night. Had a guy walk straight up to me and get in my face asking what I was doing right when I was attempting and landing a lighthouse flip. It was like the distractions didn’t matter because the spot and lighting was Soo good lol
Nice weather no wind with the sun behind you and not in a shadow is the best for tracking. If I play indoors which I do in the winter it's important when I do tricks where I look I don't look directly at the light and it's off to the side or behind me.
