I'm going camping in July: Sequoia National Park. It'll be bear season! I have the essentials: tent, sleeping bag, boots, and kendama. What do you like to pack when you head out? Want to talk about your gear? What do you never leave without?
Bear spray, bug spray, ant spray, sibling spray, bear mace, tan spray, hair spray, sunscreen, sun spray
I recently did some snow camping with @Grandpa Sandz . We wanted to summit and ski 13,000' Red Slate Mountain, which is usually done in 2 days. We got up above 10,000' and dug a snow pit to camp in, but around 4am the winds started howling and a late season snow storm shut us down. Major bummer bc I have been wanting this peak for years.
@theligitchriswhit digging a hole is cool in National Parks and BLM land. Wilderness areas you're required to carry your shit out (although I don't anyone would ever bust you for it)
@Cheech_Sander okay, I always go camping in a campsite where there is an out house or they let us dig holes. But alot of outhouses because I'm in boy scouts, that is why I said toilet paper in the first place(the outhouses we normally have don't have toilet paper)
Interested by this, so I asked my dad who was a wilderness ranger, and worked for the forest service for 40 years. he said that cat holes (digging a hole) are fine anywhere except the Whitney Trail. Around the Sierras (Inyo) that is. He also said that it is only due to the higher level of use in the Sierras that they enforce this, so I'd assume other places are lenient about it.
Gearhead here so: Knives, lights, fire starter, first aid kit, compass, map, signal mirror, water purification, camelbak, paracord, carabiners, spork, sierra cup. . . sherpa. Part of it depends on where I'd be going, how many people I'm with, and how long I'd be gone. Never leave without: knives and flashlights but that applies to daily life too not just camping. Also a believer in "2 is 1 and 1 is none" for critical items.
Yeah I know, I bring toilet paper Everytime I go camping. It has alot of uses so we call it ap paper or all purpose paper.
