New collab dropping in the Grain Theory shop! TerraPly is a custom laminate we make, and we teamed up with Grain Theory to produce some TerraPly GT1s! This batch is made from alternating layers of maple, and a species of mahogany called sapele. Hope you all dig it!
Gorgeous. I really want to get some kind of spectraply kendama at some point (I don't have any unless you count bamboo). These seem pretty amazing. What is most spectraply made of, alternating colored birch? All the terraply with other woods seem like some next level stuff.
Yea, spectraply is made from alternating layers of dyed birch. Different laminates will play quite differently as well. The wood species, the type of glue used, and how much the blank is pressed will all factor into how the final product feels and plays.
that's actually insane, i get the quality thing, but 160$ is straight robbery to anyone that buys it.
I know 160 seems steep to some; but this isn't a normal spectraply as Alex and others have pointed out. Lots of research & development and work went into just the blanks that these damas are turned from. I'm surprised they aren't more. I'll let you know how it plays when I get my hands on it.
