I feel like posers is a subject only ever talked about in the skateboarding community. Although I also think that with all hobbies/sports there will always be some kind of faker. I've always been interested with this subject when it comes to Kendama. I have recognized some people as poser, they would say they had a certain Kendama and say they did this and that trick. (One time I even asked one guy if he had the GT-1.5 before it dropped and he said yes.) So tell me your thoughts on posers. Are they all just beginners? Are they a thing when it comes to the Kendama community? Have you ever met someone who seems like a poser? I know that the Kendama community should always be exempting (and is) but I also think that honesty plays a huge role in that being possible. So tell me your thought on this!!

Yo, @lategreat808 i hear this dude @Caleb Rush is a total poser. He even said he had a Rez x Kokomo and I don't even think anything like that exists.

Idk a lot of the kids where I work will say they landed crazy tricks but I know they can't even do anything close to it. A lot of people just want to feel included. I know when I went to my first event I felt super weird cause I literally knew nothing about kendama culture.

Exempting or accepting? Big diff ;)
Like @Brandon Jensen said, a lot of kids/teens/adults just want to feel included but seems to be a thing that the younger set of players are more prone to.

I feel like if a newbie comes out with some outlandish statement you know immediately as false it wouldn't help the situation much to call them out in front of everyone. But if they continue to then I would. But really, it's just another way to pass time and make friends and junk. It's not a huge deal. It makes that person seem less than personable to me. Not to mention unintelligent.

If a n00b come out and says they can lace an insane line and difficult stall stricks, I just ask them to show me how to do it. I honestly don't care if they can do it in front of me. So long as they pass the key to nailing it. It doesn't really serve a purpose to call anyone out. They will out themselves in due time.

I had the GT-1.5 before it dropped... I swear I'm not a great big phony though:(

I think it just stems from wanting to be accepted by others. Why else would you have to lie about having the cool thing or doing a cool thing

if only i could only say something that much, cause i might be wrong about them. sometimes it's hard not to tell a certain person being a poser, especially if they think they are that good or think they know that much. I remember one question in our own community about evolution of kendama & how did affect it to today's status quo. he reacted like in a bad way when it comes to being traditional & sticking to same old tricks compared to being more advance & playing out of the ordinary. Like he just only think of it being a "toy" & not honoring it's roots & all. In fact some or most kendama players get that attitude of being good using today's kendama & disregarding the old ways. There is nothing wrong being traditional, but not knowing how hard it took for others(oldies/before new gen players) to get where they are now(n00bs/ a few/some new gen) & how they play is a process they took in evolving kendamas today.

Actually, i love both old & new stuff on kendama as long as i can play the same way of how i usually do. There might be tricks can't be done on some/few old kendamas but it doesn't mean it's impossible to do.

The first step to recovery is admitting you are a poser.
