what are everyone's thoughts on the changes that were made for the KWC now that it is over? What was the general consensus on the back up trick, the level 11 and 12 point tricks, etc.? Our son was just mentioning that he wasn't a big fan of the back up as he thought it takes away a little of the pressure.

I'm kinda on the fence with the backup trick.
Sure, it kinda takes off some stress, but if you already have your prelim run planned well, the backup trick should be the least of your concerns.

If it were me, i'd limit the past champion seeds to just two.
And make EKO a seeding event, to get more to come to the event!
So, the continental seeds should be:
    • South East Asia + Australia
    • Europe
    • North America
    • South America
    Gender seeds are great!
But doesn't help that much, since the Itami ladies are more than capable of reaching there by themselves.

The -200 point system is good, helps people clean up their act (Yutaro did well on that).

Levels 11 and 12 are a really good way to add excitement to the final runs.
It's kinda like telling everyone : "here's where the REAL deal begins."

what is that? i never saw that. was it a combo of 2 tricks that adds to 200 points?

for back up tricks, it's still a saving grace to some players but i guess everyone that joins the world cup that get's into finals doesn't even need a extra trick. it just removes the frustration to some players. i mean think of wyatt's second round run, he even didn't get his trick & he got frustrated. when it comes to seed players, it's good we start this year with the past three champs. but it would be way better next year to have the top three places to have the seed spot. plus overseas wildcard doesn't quite viable right now especailly some countries get to top spots without wilcards. but if in the future, we get more countries to participate, i guess it's either we maximize spots or do wild cards per teritory. but for me it's better to see everyone get a chance to get on stage & represents from which country they've come from.

I think he is talking ab if anything touches(lunar or lighthouses with fingers) and u don't start over it's minus 200 points. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Quoted from the Gloken KWC Rules page:

“Ken or tama must not touch your hands/clothes while doing balance tricks. If you do please restart the trick.
※ At the time of video judge, if we find you touched your hands or clothes and kept going, that trick will be judged as “failed” and 200 points will be deducted from the final score.”

TLDR : If we catch you cheating, we will knock off 200 points.

They have cameras on the judges table and also the numerous cameras recording the finalists’ runs to be sure.

It’s a trick you go to, should you find yourself unable to complete the main five tricks (in each prelim round).

I would also like to add that the judging was on point this year and every trick was legit. Case in point, Our son, Logan, thought that his points were miscalculated and they forgot to add a trick that he hit. He emailed Gloken to enquir and they got back to him with a clear definition as to why they didn't count his trick (Stodd's level 10). They explained that it wasn't finished with a clear Downspike and even sent him a pic of it. Although it is very close, it was clear in the pic that he didn't Downspike it. I think that just adds to the legitimacy of the competition and I appreciate that. Every year seems to get more and more cleaned up!!

Sorry to hear that! Was his downspike too far horizontal?

Spike was pointing up just a little bit. Must be horizontal or below if that makes sense.

I believe it was considered as a sara grip penguin spike, instead of a downspike.

I like the idea of the "backup trick." It, in my opinion, allows players to put a tougher trick into their preliminary runs and really go for it!!! By having the backup, they can know that once the clock is low if they haven't laced a toughie they can pop that off real quick. I think it ups everyone's game.

I think the backup is cool, I bet it helped some people place. If it didn't, then they can always just take it out. Did anybody get the 200 point reduction this year or was the competition super clean this year?

Is there a way to find out if every trick in the list was used and executed properly? It would be fun to see which tricks lv1-12 were left in the closet.

Gloken usually releases the finalists scoresheet (for the final 35) which details the tricks attempted in the run, like this one here.
Outside of these 35, you're gonna have to ask the remaining 352 players their 3,520 tricks (4,224 if you wanna count in the two backup tricks).

@sethtosta's wife, Karin probably hit a spike and called it a day haha! (she scored 1 point), i love it!

    1. Remove seeds, although I had an automatic bid this year, I really wasn't a fan of it. It really takes away the pressure for the first day and the feeling of working to make finals. It's the world cup, only the people who really do good at that specific day should be allowed to move on.

    2. Take out back-up tricks, honestly if you can't make your five tricks and have to cop out with a simple trick to make sure you barely make it really means you really don't deserve to be in the finals.

    3. Penalize early starts, every second is crucial, if you have a second more than another person because you start early, that's completly unfair and should be penalized for.

    4. Ban Accessories, I know this new thing called Saragloo came out and I've personally tried it and it's just nonsense. I don't understand how someone could miss using that thing, it's crazy cheat hah, same goes for all accessories. Just use the kendama how it should be jeez. (quit shaving the hole to be as big as your fist, just get better spiking skills)

    5. String length regulations, I honestly thought it was silly seeing a lot of players use strings longer than 5, it's basically playing stringless at that point, the string never tangles hah. But if there is no regulation next year, I'm coming back with an 8 finger.

This may just make me sound salty but I've always had a problem the new rules since they were announced. #makekwcgreatagain

You got every right to state what you feel, just like everyone else here.

Have you voiced your concerns to Gloken?
If it's anyone who'd listen and make changes, it's them, and your voice will probably be better heard, too.

I think we will see some sort of regulation next year when it comes to string length, it was a bit ridiculous this year. I remember Gloken made regulations to bevel size from last year to this year, I believe they will do the same for string length.

@Bryson L , do you feel these slack rules caused you to lose the cup?
