what do you guys do when you get super frustrated on a trick. Throw the ken? Switch set ups? Hang it up for the night? I personally switch set ups till I eventually just say "over it" and go chill out or I talk shit to my dama til I lace. I use to be a ken thrower but after I broke a window I stopped that.
Curse out the environment I'm in ("fuck you chair, piece of shit"), slam the ken, keep trying until my battery dies or I give up lol. Spent over 4 hours on a trick last week, but all I got out of it was 2 drained GoPro batteries, a chipped ken, and sore legs for the next day. I ended up lacing the trick in about 15 minutes a couple days later. Fucking kendama man
I honestly don't rage that hard even when I can't land anything. sometimes I get angry and throw my kendama on the ground but only if theres carpet and if its a kendama I really don't care about. I think kendama also teaches us self control. being able to not get hella pissed when things aren't going your way is a very good habit.
I usually just take a break. Taking my mind of the trick im chasing helps me just chill out. Sometimes I yell a lot to get the anger out tho
I won't throw my damas, I think if it breaks then I'll never be able to land it and that's like the dama winning. I will however grab a different setup, or try a different trick, often times easier, to rebuild confidence and reset my thought process.
I'm a ken thrower. There were a few times I've slammed it on the ground from rage (always on plush grass though). On the flip side, one time i was too stoked landing a combo that i just chucked it as far as I could at a park. Other than that, I take my anger out on hella forceful downspikes and down earths
Multiple consecutive Down earths for me, or same as the OP and switch setups until I call it a night.
I’ll hold the tama and stab it really hard as if I’m Happy Gilmore telling the ken to get in it’s hole. If it goes past that I’ll literally just put it down on the closest surface and go smoke one. I tend to catch myself right before I wanna slam the dama on the ground
For me it's kinda phase for me. Usually, by the time i was starting kendama i was slamming my dama/throw it on the ground like a dance after a choreo(in kendama, after lacing a single or a nasty line). I did that before just to release my fruatration, plus i can't stress myself while lacing a trick cause if i did i may never finish it & might call it a day. Now, i either take long breaks, pep talk, or the "screw it i give up" *throwns dama on the grass don't give an f defeat moment XD. well of course if you ever throw, do it somewhere soft cause you don't wanna destroy your dama completely (im talking to my fellow broke dama players *ehem cough cough). Also it don't condone this action completely. I mean it's fine thrashing something, sometimes. But remember that kendama has tradition, an artform from it's creation (craftsmanship) til it's way of play (flow). So we should treat it with respect
