Hi guys, does anyone know the date(s) of Catch & Flow 2017? Also, how does it work (criteria to compete, invited players, etc.)?
In the past years the competition was always announced around the time of KWC or a bit after. You sign up to compete & must include links to your kendama play (YouTube, Instagram, etc), how long you've been playing, if your sponsored. There are people who look over each application then you get a email about a month before the competition saying if you made the cut or not. I'm guessing if your coming from overseas then they'd let you know if you can compete earlier so you can book a flight over. I think there are about 30~50 spots open. If you are accepted, congrats! Then the day of the event you get about a minute to show the judges what you got on stage. If you did well then you can move onto the final 16. Battle time! But... if you are invited to compete then you automatically have a spot in the final 16. Every year there are a hand full of guest contestants I believe that Nobu handpicks. Not positive. *Fun Fact* my profile pic is me on stage at the 2015 C&F.
To those who have been to C&F, or know the workings of it, i have two questions for you : Out of the 100-odd people who compete in C&F, how do they determine who gets into the final 32/64? Can you summarize the entire flow of the event? What usually happens throughout the day, etc etc.
From what I know (and I think I have asked the right people), 8 people are invited and 8 people qualify. Now, I believe those who aren’t invited in the top 8, have a certain amount of time (45 seconds I think) to do their thing and they are judged by 3 people. The 8 with the highest score advance to face the 8 that were invited in a single elimination tournament format. Now, as far as the event goes, I hear it is just a one day deal at a night club and it’s supposedly epic! Hope to go one day. I’m sure someone who has gone before can expand or correct me if I’m wrong.
Got a clarification from the 2014 World Champion himself! In the prelims, players are given 90 secs solo on stage, and judged on skill, creativity and consistency. Finalists will be put into a 1v1 match with 2 rounds each, at 45 secs per round.
It was streamed on Japanese service niconico last year. You need to download and open their app and register first.
Nobu confirmed with me just now that the niconico stream may be eschewed in favor of the Sweets Twitch stream.
Good to know. I was having a tough time navigating the site yesterday when I was working it out if anyone asked in KDS. I already have a Twitch live notification for Sweet's set-up. So no extra server work YAY! Alexis informed us that she will be hosting a stream on Kroms FB page on the FINAL day, while also updating us in the chat. So between Sweet's livestream, Kroms FB stream, Discord, and possibly NicoNico. I think C&F will be well covered.
No live stream yet, they're probably 30 mins into the qualifiers already I'm over here trying to have a livestream party in the Dama on the Drive shop like....
