In the spirit of black friday and since I'm about to have a few more packages to explain to my roommates/fiance, how do you respond the the infamous question "Why do you need so many kendamas" when asked by someone who doesn't play. We all know the obvious answers, but how do you respond to someone who doesn't play at all and when you might only have 10 seconds to answer before they lose interest. (Loosely related) I think the Kendama community needs a convenient agreed upon name for people who don't play kendama, similar to muggles in Harry Potter.
My gf asked me recently why I have 10+. I told her they are different shapes and woods so they play differently. She shook her head and said, Okay...
I was thinking the ‘Dama-less’. I usually lie or downplay how much is in my collection (50+) to the NEDS/Dama-less. Even when I put up a smaller number like 10 or 15 it seems like a whole lot to them.
I can relate. I used to live at my parents and I had the top of a dresser full of about 30 or so. Left all of them at their place when I left and now have about about 25 at my new place. With the addition of 4 more that I bought this weekend. I just dig them. And I can pass them out to friends who are interested.
This is gold. If you hold the dama around your neck while you're not playing it's basically a necklace anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Duuude I'm so guilty of this. My coworkers (mostly damaless) are always asking "did you get another kendama" and I always make up some bs like "nah I just haven't brought this one to work I don't think."
I always go to the tried and true "Different Damas, Different Tricks" explanation. I also say that I'm an avid collector and that seems to go over fine.
How about Un-kendables? Well I'm facing the same question most of the time but they are interested with all these different painted/coloured fancy ball with a stick #)
Or we could call them uncoordinated. Or the unchosen. Mugenless. Can't make a tribute, zen-less. They have no sol. Or sol-less. Hahaha I like the last one.
can anyone relate to being asked if you painted your kendama a different color since the last time they saw you?
Bit too specific to each company. But I like where your mind is going. Sansdama (sans - without) Normies The Sours (opposite of Sweets, piggy backing off of your list)
Hahaha kind of. I was doing stalls so I was holding the ken, then I started doing lunars (holding the tama) and my grandma asked me how many Kendamas I had because she thought it was a different thing
