Post where you’re from and how big the community is around you. Im pretty sure that this thread has already been posted, but it hasn’t received new posts in over a year, so I decided to start a fresh one. I’m from SC and I don’t know anyone who plays, but I know there are players here. Maybe this thread will help newer players find other people around them, and help build communities.
Milwaukee Wisconsin, recently we have had a club of around ten people, so we've been trying to grow the scene here! If anyone is in the area (Chicago) or a short distance away, 1.5 hour Amtrak from Chicago, come sesh with us! Preferably in the summer
I'm not sure where you're at in SC, but Zach Porter and Austin Ring (aka GVK) are in the Greenville/Columbia area! I'm down here in Georgia with our squad. It's been growing, most of our jams have at least 10 people. My old high school actually sponsors a club and I think that really helps the community too. School clubs get more people into it and then you automatically have people to jam with as well!
Memphis represent! Only people I know here with kendamas are the ones lucky enough to have gotten Christmas kendamas from me.
@Austin Ayers If you look in Sessions there are a lot of location specific posts regarding local community action. You can also look here for related info: Anyone from places without a dama scene? and Where do you wish you lived because of Kendama? For a little "forum function" FYI we do try to keep related threads together so reviving an older thread on the same/similar topic is helpful to keep all the info in one easily accessible area.
Well I work at KUSA and we usually help promote the GA Jams overall! If you follow the insta @gakendamaplayers and going the GA Kendama Players FB group - we always post in there when it's happening! The next one is 2/10 at the Woodstock Library!
I live in DFW Texas, I would love to find out about local jams or a kendama club or where meetups locally could start up. Let me know if you live in the area and we could throw something together
I completely understand that, and I did search the forums for this topic, but my noob comment on an old thread without any posts for the last year wouldn’t draw any new commenters, would it? Sorry I’m kinda new to DS.
I live in eastern upstate NY and I've yet to meet anyone so I sesh with YouTube. This spring Im gonna start bringing damas with me to our skate park that was built a couple years ago. Try get some of the local youth hyped on it and hopefully spread it around too. Who knows maybe in a year or less I'll be able to organize a weekly etc. jam.
No worries at all. Just giving you, and anyone else passing through, a heads-up regarding forum preferences. Every board I've been on does it slightly different and if no one ever mentions anything it might not be apparent. The search here is a little funky still. A search for "kendama" and "kendamas" turn up different results so you have to be patient with it sometimes. In any event it's good to have you with us; see you on the boards.
I am out here in Pittsburgh, we have had a big scene in the past, but there doesn't seem to be much happening at the moment. I am hoping to find new people and start it up again.
SoCal squad! Some of the chillest seshes come from @Kenyatta Williams with his Bi-Weekly Encinitas jams in the library. Check his instagram (@th0k3n) for the info every couple weeks.
What part of SoCal are you at? I may be able to help lol. I am like half an hour to 2 hours away from the events I usually go to. Kenyattas Jams are about 30 mins from me, and I still go every time. I don't go to KendamaOC's regular jams, but sometimes take the long 1-2 hour drive over to their bigger events like OJO and Summer Squeeze. So I may be in a similar situation as you, but I could give you all the info that I have.
