I think I've got the pull up down pat, it's a lot like lunar with a little more rotation of the ken. But landing the rim of the big cup in the hole is what's really giving me problems. I'm cushioning the fall of the ken with the tama but I can't seem to land it.
Instead of thinking it as "cushioning the fall", think of it as catching the ken at (or close to) it's highest point during the swing up (right before it accelerates down). It's like swing up like a lunar, but the feel of catching it is like a bird. Sweet's stilt tutorial
Hmmm, okay thanks! I'll try this out some more. I keep smacking the ken with the tama when I catch it so I need to work on that some more.
Practice putting the ken on the tama, as if you’ve landed the trick. Wiggle around a bit, adjust your hands, find your sweet (and stable) spot, then remember that hand position. Stilts and lunar have a slightly different tama grip. Then, try to time the pull up a wee bit later than you would, as compared to lunar. When done right, the bevel would land first, and the spike tip will slowly move itself towards the belly of the tama.
So for stilt should I be actually swinging the tama out away from my body more than I would be for a lunar? Because for lunar (and my airplanes actually) I don't swing the tama much, if at all. I do the slight rotation thing that Sweets does in his video for my lunarS. But it looks like he swings the ken out a bit more for stilts.
If you know how to do lunars, then a stilt is like that but the pull-up is a lot more sharp and less of the ken swinging out!
i have been able to land stilts for years but my consistency is garbage. I've found that freah damas are bad for stilts. my best stilt dama is a totally trashed 3/10 tk 16
Yeah same for me. I can get stilt on a set up that is completely destroyed almost every time, but I haven’t landed it on any other set up I have ever.
Yeah i agree with Cheech, Freshies are super tough for stilts so destroy that bevel and the stilt should have a nice landing spot with plenty of room for the rim of the cup to rest. Try doing a ton of spike tricks to break it in!
