I usually pick my setup THAT weekend... hmmm as of right now I'd say Kaizen 2.0 Maple/ @Grandpa Sandz tama. Black string and new KUSA bearing player! Going for Open!!
It may or may not change but so far my setups for the comp is: Sweets avalanche prime DWI KozoMod and then i normally bring a couple jammers and probably the rolling pin just for funzies. oh, and I'm doing intermediate (and the girls comp too)!
Mellowken with the prime custom mantis tama for sure. It's soooo honed for everything with the cushion clear
Sol Maple x Sol Pioneer, Sol Flow x Jake Fisch, Sol Maple x Krom Mimoe, and Sol beech ken x Kendama Mpls tama. Fireeee.
Gonna revive this as MKO 2018 is THIS MONTH! Hoping to compete in AM Open this year. Wanted to bring just a few damas but really feeling these 5. - Craft Shift Hickory ken x RWB Swish pro mod tama - Craft Slim (new) Maple ken x #DesignAPrime Lava Plume tama - Sol Ash Sticky Cups - Sweets Next Gen Maple Homegrown w/ Larch stripe tama - REZ Blue/Green swirl ken x KMPLS Water Dub Stripe tama
I’m so new to kendama that I know very little about Rez, but I’ve heard there will be no more production. Idk what they even cost, if you could get one, but they seemed super interesting
The creator, Kris, essentially got burned out and just wanted to enjoy kendama again as a customer/player. The ken in the pic I posted was from the final drop he had on his site a couple months ago (separate from the collab he did with GT a few weeks back). He wasn’t the first, from what I’ve heard, who cast kens out of resin but his craftsmanship and attention to detail really put him and REZ on the spot (to the point where if there was a tiny, minute blemish or a single bubble hole anywhere on the ken he would consider it B grade and not sell it at all). The GT-BH REZ setups cost around $140+ but all the kens that Kris sold on his site ranged from I believe $50 to $80 (kens only).
Shift is my jam but I’m gonna compete with the Slim setup because it’s much better for slingers which I am absolute trash at.
I probably am gonna use a maple slim ken with a rolf 1% mod tama. Maybe a GTKA x sourmash a backup. Then my maple shift x legaxis as a 3rd choice
I'm gonna go to Starbucks, and order the largest coffee they have. And then remember that in the US, the biggest size is like... double the normal biggest size. But I'll drink it all anyways, to stay in the judging-alertness zone
Shift people, so I'm pretty good at slingers (trying to get 7 sling right now), will I be able to do slingers ok on the shift? I hear they aren't very good for slings, but I've seen dwesty and joris do trip late slings on them, so I don't know. @Jasper B. I know you're good at slings, so you might be the best one to answer. Also, sidenote- I'm glad to see people using kusa damas as their #1 choice. I love the company, but it seemed like they were a lil behind as far as competition level playability is concerned for a couple years.
If I compete, its def gonna be my hella hones Baja Bamboo Prime Custom Who wants to take bets to see if I will have any time to even attempt to compete? lol
It’s not that it’s bad for slingers (at least depending on your own skill level at it) I think, it’s just not as geared towards it like the Slim and other similar shapes are.
