So a bit of background i have been playing Kendama for pretty well 8 years now and living in australia means there is next to no one as hyped on Kendama as i am. The only time i get to jam with others is when i make trips overseas for events (this unfortunately doesnt happen that often). So i have had to perfect the art of the Solo Session. What i wanna know is how and what do you do when playing alone? Me personally all i need to get a good sesh going is to brew up some coffee, throw some music on and just jam. (Over time the coffee has become as much a part of the session as Kendama) Happy Solo Seshing!!!!!!!!
Same here, I have homies that play where I live, but adult life puts a damper on that. Good tunes are a must, some form of caffeine, and some herbs for creativity & clarity. I usually start by throwing on my kendama youtube playlist and get inspired by those that are more skilled than I currently am. A nice setting is always sweet, but it's winter and I'm a crybaby about the cold so i've been jammin indoors
As a player in a small town with few friends, the solo sesh is everything. I like to make some tea or coffee, a j, and my Slaylist on spotify. I can't sesh without music.
Our sons seems to FaceTime when he's is in need of companionship while playing. Kind of best of both worlds, solo and playing with old/new friends.
Yeah my solo sesh is just about the only sesh. If I'm being serious, I always sesh outside, and usually throw in some headphones to listen to music or a podcast (yeah I'm a nerd.)
I'm usually in my room, either have music on or Netflix with Futurama or something i've seen a thousand times and dont need to pay attention but can still follow. Or go to a park with headphones to jam on. It's snowing here now and gets to the negative degrees at its lowest now so cant really go outside at the moment
Luckily I have some good inspiration around to jam with (@RodDama @Instagrom3, and some other homies that aren't on here), but solo sessions still do happen. I don't really have a set routine, I guess lately I've been using solo seshes to post some tricks to the Kusa insta story though. And of course, solo film missions are for da grind...
The only time I ever play with other people is if I make the effort to go to San Francisco. Otherwise I only play alone. That being said, I usually just have the TV/music going on in the background. I also take food breaks if needed. I also try and do tricks I'm consistent with as well as some new ones. My last real "solo sesh" was like 4 hours long for one trick. Otherwise my seshes are just me jamming and chillin out
I have been playing for 2 years and all the while was doing solo sesh when I'm having free time at work. this sucks and I have zero string tricks. only kids play in my country and being 33 years old.. it's a bit hard to join them.
My best solo seshs is always the saturday one like today. I'll try to get up fairly early and go outside, and start playing while I am still waking up. I have a lot of routine stuff to keep me sharp, 3x whirlwinds in a row, 5x j-sticks, 10x downspikes and so on. After that I currently practice spacewalk stuff cause I am really behind on that part. I use music too. I like calm stuff like Owen or American Football. I'll play for a few hours and go in and catch a show or something, then practice a bit during the evening as well. Those days are the best.
I live in the middle of nowhere now so I have been jamming by myself a lot lately. My jam usually consists of putting on a Disney movie for my son and jamming along to great hits like, "Everybody Wants to be a Cat," which wouldn't be too bad if I still smoked the Devils lettuce.
Despite working at a toy store and living in Minnesota I don't really know anyone that's as into kendama as I am, would be nice to jam with some new people outside of work. I think my perfect solo session is just anywhere outside (When MN isn't a frozen tundra) I'm not sure what it is, but playing outside just feels so much better to me!
Since I'm a full time student and I work full time I can never make it to kendama sessions in Salt Lake so I always jam by my self and for me I'll usually make some coffee or drink beer and jam with some music
Always solo sesh. There's no Dama community here in West Covina, CA. Hardly anybody even knows West Covina. And I always sesh by myself in silence. Idk music distracts me
