Those kinds of tricks are definitely weird on them, kind of a reason why I don't string mine above 3. I'm sure I'd be able to get used to it but eh. Maybe I'll try it sometime to hone in on the jugs and taps. Always thought that the maximum was 38cm for JKA regulations, not minimum. The more you know!
I always play with exactly 4! I find it the sweet spot between long enough for like new gen ish tricks and just short enough to still spacewalk without it being weird. Like Alex said I've heard some crazy lengths 6,7, even 8
I jam a 4-finger just for the way that I do my hand rolls, and so that I have a little bit more time to tap the tama in juggles(I hate juggles, though....).
I'm a hand percussionist and my fingers change shape all the time. A tape measure is a real measurement. My F3 sits at 16 -1/2"
usually 3-4, but i've found myself playing 4 more than 3 lately. I do have a couple set ups that are 2 and they are still jammers!
I normally like 3-4 fingers. I strung one shorter then that and it was super weird to play it form me
Kinda funny how after this post I just started using the cup method. Although I found out two fingers for me is about 16 and 1/4
I remember it being a really tight 2 fingers, but it has stretched. I'm going to replace it soon and see if I can get the new string to sit between17 to 18"
